Soriano For Marcum? Whir

Postby exm » Thu Jun 21, 2012 1:45 pm

I need closers badly. Currently this is my pitching staff:
Closers:
Marmol
Hanrahan

SP:
Lee
Hanson
Latos
Marcum
Garza
Hughes
Buchholz
Hammel

I tried offering him Hanson, Lator or Hughes but he want Marcum for R Soriano. I'm actually a bit concerned about Marcum's injury (which doesn't seem to look this serious at this moment but who knows). Shall I pull the trigger?

Thanks and WHIR.

If there is really nothing on the wire I would be ok with this.

I think you can do that deal and feel pretty good about it. You have a nice rotation still.

Help me?

I like it. It would be nice if you could move Marcum for an even better closer, but maybe you've tried.
It isn't like Soriano has been bad, but Marcum has been pretty solid himself and you've to the starter for reliever thing...but Marcum is hurting so why not.

Mine?

h2h? I wouldn't do that deal. You could get a better closer for Marcum.

I'd definitely try for something more for Marcum. I'm not completely sold that Soriano will hold the closers job the rest of the way.

The problem is that most managers in my 14 player league simply won't trade. This owner does not want to give up any other closer (he initially offered J Valverde). Unless Soriano melts down I don't see him losing his job at this point.

My primary concern is Marcum's injury. If I wait 1-2 more days and some major news comes out, I might not get anything back. Ofcourse Marcum can be perfectly healthy... Tough one. Thanks to all for the input and keep it coming!

I just checked out Marcum's split stats because I was curious if he was a better second half pitcher or a better first half pitcher. In every year except for 2006, Marcum's ERA was basically .40 higher in the second half. In 2007, it was two runs higher. I would do it based on that alone. If he's already experiencing arm problems, what are the chances he 1) finishes the season without a DL stint or 2) maintains his performance, especially given he seems to tire and perform worse in the second half. Based on that information, and your need, I would absolutely make that trade.
