Lawrie or Heyward in 2013 and 2014?

Postby dannahann » Wed Jun 20, 2012 4:53 pm

12T 7x7 mixed roto keeper. Extra hitting cats are H and OPS.

I'm rebuilding a team I essentially gutted to win our championship last year. I'm not going to contend this season but fully expect to get back in the money in 2013 and 2014 (top 3), with hopes to maybe win in those years.

I have an opportunity to trade Heyward for Lawrie. We utilize a contract year keeper system and both are signed through 2014, meaning they would each cost me 2CY to keep in 2013 and 1CY in 2014. The contracts are mandatory, so neither could be opted out of for suckiness or injury.

Which is the most promising keep for those two seasons, Heyward or Lawrie?

Other bats I'll have under contract during those 2 years include Tulo (2015) Harper (2015) J-Up (2014) Fielder (2013) C Santana (2013) and R Zimmerman (2013).

I'd much rather have Lawrie.

Agree with above post....... I don't really think Heyward will ever live up to the hype, and OF is a very deep position. Lawrie is a 20/20 with the potential to be 30/30. I'll take that!

They both have similar upside. Heyward has a much better eye (put up a .393 OBP in his age 21 rookie season over 600+ AB 8-o), and probably a little more power. Lawrie has a little more speed, better home ballpark. It's very close. I would go with Lawrie because of position.
Here's the pitch on the way, a swing and a belt! Left field! Way back! BLUE JAYS WIN!

I feel it's close too and really appreciate you as Jays fan being so unbiased in your assessment. I'm going to hold off consummating until tomorrow's game just to be sure Lawrie's nick isn't serious.
