Who to shop for SP/3B?

Postby JJLinn » Sat Jun 16, 2012 9:24 am

In a 12 team keeper 5X5 league...my offense has been awesome so far, but my pitching is struggling big time. I want to try and shop some guys for help at SP and maybe even 3B, but I have a hard time deciding on who. My roster looks like this:

C: Matt Wieters (BAL)
C: AJ Ellis (LAD)
1B: Prince Fielder (DET)
2B: Jason Kipnis (CLE)
3B: Chipper Jones (ATL)
SS: Asdrubal Cabrera (CLE)
2B/SS: Jose Altuve (HOU)
1B/3B: Todd Frazier (CIN)
OF: Corey Hart (MIL)
OF: Dexter Fowler (COL)
OF: Josh Hamilton (TEX)
OF: Matt Joyce (TB)
OF: Jason Heyward (ATL)
OF: Daniel Nava (BOS)
UTIL: Josh Willingham (MIN)

BENCH: Rod Barajas (PIT)
BENCH: Robert Andino (BAL)
BENCH: Chris Getz (KC)
BENCH: Gerardo Parra (ARI)
DL: Nick Markakis (BAL)

SP: Shaun Marcum (MIL)
SP: Yu Darvish (TEX)
SP: Yovani Gallardo (MIL)
SP: Wei-Yin Chen (BAL)
SP: Ian Kennedy (ARI)
SP: Bronson Arroyo (CIN)
RP: Chris Perez (CLE)
RP: Jim Johnson (BAL)
RP: Ernesto Frieri (LAA)
RP: Jason Grilli (PIT)

BENCH: Zach Britton (BAL)
BENCH: Jerome Williams (LAA)
BENCH: Nate Eovaldi (LAD)
BENCH: Drew Pomeranz (COL)
BENCH: Mike Adams (TEX)
DL: Jered Weaver (LAA)
DL: Chris Carpenter (STL)

Which pitchers are availabe on waivers?

I think you could get away with losing Corey Hart, or you could probably get an even better pitcher for Jason Heyward. I would shop for guys like Josh Johnson, Matt Moore, and Clay Buchholz. I like those guys a lot for the rest of the year. Buchholz is obviously gonna be the cheapest, but I think he is a quality pitcher from here on out, especially in the deeper leagues.

Slim pickings...the top five SP's on waivers are:

Nova
Nolasco
Zambrano
Saunders
Blanton

And with it being a keeper league in a little hesitant to shop Heyward and I doubt Moore would be available. The people in my league overvalue their guys big time. For example, I was just offered Chris Davis for Kipnis straight up.
