Help me $$mortgage$$ the farm

Postby sinkerslider » Sat Jun 16, 2012 12:39 am

League format: 20 team dynasty, H2H, 6x6 scoring (standard 5x5 + OPS & holds)

After last year's deep draft class, I decided to make this a final rebuilding year and traded away veterans for youth and prospect draft picks (Tim Hudson, for example, was traded straight up for a pick that became Danny Hultzen). Anyway, somehow I'm in the race and have a legit shot at finally winning my dynasty league after 6 years and have made it known that I'm willing to mortgage the farm for an impact bat or two.

I have a small but deep cadre of prospects in:
- Gerrit Cole :-D
- Danny Hultzen ;-D
- Travis d'Arnaud :-L
- Heath Hembree :-?

This is a 20 team league, with huge rosters (when you have to start guys like Tolleson you know your league is deep) so it's a very big deal trading away these guys. That said, if you have a shot at winning then you take it.

So a guy has placed Adam Dunn and JJ Hardy on the table but would like to know what my opening offer is. Both bats would make a huge difference for me but I don't know what's appropriate to offer and I don't want to insult. My question is: Who do I really need, Dunn or Hardy or both? And who do I trade away? His team seems pretty set with pitching.

My roster:
C - Jesus Flores :~(
1B - Mark Teixeira
2B - Dustin Ackley
3B - Martin Prado
SS - Steve Tolleson !+)
OF - Josh Hamilton, Carlos Beltran, Matt Holliday
DH - Gregor Blanco, Ichiro Suzuki, Jonny Gomes
BN - Casey Kotchman, Austin Kearns, Stephen Drew (DL), Chris Iannetta (DL)

SP - RA Dickey, Anibal Sanchez, Shaun Marcum, Brandon McCarthy, Bronson Arroyo, Kevin Millwood, Mike Leake, Joe Blanton
RP - Huston Street, Matt Capps, Johnny Venters, Sergio Romo, Jon Rauch
BN - Zach Britton (DL), Drew Pomeranz (DL)

His roster:
C - J.P. Arrencibia
1B - Adam Dunn
2B - Sean Rodriguez
3B - Chris Johnson
SS - JJ Hardy
OF - Alex Rios, Bryan LaHair, Alex Gordon
DH - Zach Cozart, Jason Bay, Brian Dozier
BN - Matt LaPorta, Mike Carp (DL), Chase Utley (DL), Grady Sizemore (DL)

SP - Edinson Volquez, Erik Bedard, Francisco Liriano, Dan Haren, Chris Young, JA Happ, AJ Burnett, Scott Diamond, Zack Greinke
RP - Frank Francisco, Jose Valverde, Juan Cruz, Michael Fiers, Jose Quintana
BN - Felipe Paulino (DL), Dallas Braden (DL), Joakim Soria (DL)

Well you really could use a SS so I would probably go after him. But I am not sure I would give up Cole or Hultzen. Maybe D'Arnaud. I might offer maybe offer the last two prospects and Ichiro for those two guys. See what he says.
