Sell high on Dickey or McDonald

Postby suckerpuncher » Fri Jun 15, 2012 5:47 am

In a 12 team non-keeper league someone looking for pitching help offered me Altuve for my McDonald. Though I could need some help at 2B I feel I could get more for McDonald.
But he also has Uggla while I also have Dickey. I thought maybe Uggla for Dickey would be a good deal for me team.

Scoring: R, HR, RBI, SB, BB, AVG - W, SV, K, ERA, WHIP, QS

My team:
C: A.J. Pierzynski(C)
1B: Paul Konerko(1B)
2B: Howie Kendrick(1B,2B,OF)
3B: Hanley Ramirez(3B,SS)
SS: J.J. Hardy(SS)
OF: Jason Heyward(OF), Josh Hamilton(OF), Kendrys Morales(1B,OF)
Util: Justin Upton(OF)
BN: Freddie Freeman(1B)

SP: Stephen Strasburg(SP), R.A. Dickey(SP)
RP: Chris Perez(RP), Frank Francisco(RP)
P: Scott Downs(RP), Matt Thornton(RP), Tommy Hanson(SP)
BN: Henderson Alvarez(SP), Adam Wainwright(SP), Ubaldo Jimenez(SP), Francisco Liriano(SP,RP), James McDonald(SP)

His team:
C: Jesus Montero(C)
1B: Mark Trumbo(1B,3B,OF)
2B: Dan Uggla(2B)
3B: Aramis Ramirez(3B)
SS: Everth Cabrera(2B,SS)
OF: Giancarlo Stanton(OF), Hunter Pence(OF), Bryce Harper(OF)
Util: Jose Altuve(2B)
BN: Logan Morrison(1B,OF), Michael Saunders(OF), Zack Cozart(SS)
DL: Troy Tulowitzki(SS)

SP: Gio Gonzalez(SP)
RP: Jose Valverde(RP), Huston Street(RP)
P: Addison Reed(RP), Tom Wilhelmsen(RP), Kenley Jansen(RP)
BN: Jarrod Parker(SP), Jake Peavy(SP), Ricky Nolasco(SP), Anibal Sanchez(SP)
DL: Brandon Morrow(SP)

What would be a good value for either McDonald or Dickey?

Thanks in advance.

First deal isn't good. You would be selling low on McDonald instead of selling high. Dickey for Uggla is a pretty fair offer though.

I'd approach it like this.If you trade McDonald or Dickey, who would be your #2 SP during the playoffs? If I were you I'd be looking to improve my SP's,not trying trade one of my best 2(assuming Stras innings cap of course).

Hendricks isn't that bad.Isn't there anybody on the WW?In my 12 man H2H there are a couple guys I'd roster right now if I needed 2B help.

Dickey for Uggla is a fair trade, but it would leave your pitching staff pretty thin. So if I was you the only way I would trade Dickey or McDonald is if I was getting a SP in return as well.

I forgot to mention that our league doesn't use playoffs. We play all weeks in normal H2H fashion. Team with the best record at the end is champ.

Oh,well that makes my input invalid.I'm not familiar with that format in H2H.If you don't have any move restrictions I'd probably stream half my positions from catcher to SP every day based on matchups.

I wouldn't trade Dickey.
'He's been the best pitcher imo.
Try Plouffe or Utley at 2B, instead of trading.

I actually think Altuve for McDonald is a fair trade. I would not trade Dickey for Uggla. I think Altuve may be better than Uggla the rest of the way; I think McDonald is already starting to slow down if you look at his peripherals (he has not pitched past the 6th inning lately), while Dickey is on fire, and has been pitching well for around 2 years.
