Rate the trade - Niese/Soriano for Morales/Martin or Doumit

Postby Knights » Thu Jun 14, 2012 3:26 pm

Jonathan Niese has had a couple strong starts in a row now, and I want to try to capitalize by trading him to a team that has just lost Morrow and may lose Bud Norris, and wasn't deep in SP to begin with.

I'm thnking of offering Niese and Alfonso Soriano (another sell high) for Kendrys Morales and either Russell Martin or Ryan Doumit.

I could use a C while Lucroy is out, and I desparately need a 1B with Luke Scott going in the tank and now injured, and I view Morales as a player who could get stronger as he continues his comeback from injury (as long as he doesn't lose playing time!!). I'm a fan of Niese, but his value is probably near its highest for this season, and while I could use Soriano's power numbers he's bound to cool down greatly pretty soon.

So... (a) which C should I target, and (b) is this a good deal for me?

My Team
C Jonathan Lucroy (Mil - C) DL
1B Brett Wallace (Hou - 1B)
2B Dustin Pedroia (Bos - 2B)
3B Brett Lawrie (Tor - 3B)
SS Hanley Ramirez (Mia - 3B,SS)
LF Matt Joyce (TB - LF,RF)
CF Chris Young (Ari - CF)
RF Carlos Beltran (StL - RF)
Util Alfonso Soriano (ChC - LF)
BN Norichika Aoki (Mil - LF,CF,RF)
BN Luke Scott (TB - 1B,LF)
BN Anthony Rizzo (ChC - 1B)

SP James Shields (TB - SP)
SP Matt Garza (ChC - SP)
SP Johnny Cueto (Cin - SP)
SP Jonathon Niese (NYM - SP)
RP Santiago Casilla (SF - RP)
RP Heath Bell (Mia - RP)
P Tom Wilhelmsen (Sea - RP)
BN Homer Bailey (Cin - SP)
BN Ervin Santana (LAA - SP)
BN Mike Minor (Atl - SP)
DL Jaime Garcia (StL - SP) DL
DL David Robertson (NYY - RP) DL

I think that is a perfectly fine deal. No problem with you making it. As for the C, I would lean toward Martin, as he has the hot hand right now. Really a toss-up, but I think Martin has the slight edge.

I like the deal and think you take Martin for park factor and health factor.

I like the deal as well, and agree with everything said above, Morales has been playing better, but he will miss games when the Angels are playing in National League parks, but they did start him at first base in colorado with puljos playing 3rd and trumbo in the outfield, hopefully they keep that up and also hopefully morales keeps the power surge going as of recent. And I would take Martin as well, much better ballpark to be hitting in.

Looks like a good deal to me.
