RF Justin Upton was given a day off Tuesday, his second in four days, and he not play again Wednesday, manager Kirk Gibson said, as the D-backs look for a way to get him back on track. Upton has four hits and one in his last 28 at-bats. "We're trying to get him going. Try a lot of things. We need him to relax, and we need him to get on a roll," Gibson said. Upton, fourth in the NL MVP voting last year when he had 31 homers and 88 RBI, is hitting .243 with five homers and 20 RBI this year. (Yahoo! Sports)

D-Backs manager said that Upton could receive additional time off in the near future after he was on the bench for the second time in four games Tuesday night, the Arizona Republic reports.
Recommendation: "It's day to day right now," Gibson said of Upton before Tuesday's game. "He's not playing today, he might not play tomorrow. We have an off day the next day. I don't know. But today, I knew I wasn't going to play him. I think he's over-thinking. I think he's over-trying. Things aren't coming naturally to him. He's tried a lot. He's a little bit lost in who he really is. And he's really frustrated as you can see." Gibson suggested that Upton may sit out a series of consecutive games, so it appears that his owners in daily leagues will have keep a close eye on the pre-game lineups to verify Upton's availability.
