Trade Vetoed

Postby bigmck » Sat Jun 02, 2012 9:57 pm

Without going into which side I was on, here is the trade along with the stats.

Bryan LaHair - 10 HR, 22 RBI and .313 BA
Johan Santana - 3 Wins, 2.38 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, 68 K

traded for

Ryan Zimmerman - 2 HR, 18 RBI and .246 BA
Cliff Lee - 0 Wins, 3.00 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, 54 K

This was soundly Vetoed. What really puzzled me was that everyone agreed the Zimmerman, Lee side was getting the better of the deal.

This trade shouldn't get a single vote IMO. I'd obviously rather be on the Lee/Zimm side, but no way it's vetoable :-S

Pretty fair deal i think. I could obv see this trade getting vetoed if it was april but not now.

It's pretty clear to me that the player getting LaHair (regression) and Santana (huge injury risk) got rooked in this trade. At the end of the day, I think 9 out of 10 reasonably informed managers would agree that Lee/Zimm wind up with better numbers, and will certainly be worth more going forward.

But so what? That's the game! This trade is a TEXTBOOK sell high/buy low trade. Kudos to Manager B for pulling it off. ;-D

Those veto votes are just sour grapes. :-t

I don't even see the point in trading at all if that deal is vetoed. There is a very real possibility that the LaHair/Santana side ends up with better stats.

That is exactly the way I feel and have decided to stay in the league for the remainder of the year, ignore all trade offers and not be in the league next year. This league was advertised as "A No Trade Veto League". However each Owner has a Trade Challenge he can use. If the Challenge is successful, he can use it again. What happens is most trades are challenged and the rest of the league votes to Veto. It makes things very hard.

That Trade Challenge is an interesting concept in theory (until you get to the part where it led to this unreasonable veto)
