A guy has offered me Votto + Markakis for my Josh Hamilton... Do I do this deal? I'm sitting pretty in 1st with a 47-21-2 record, but my division is easily the strongest of the two. The guy I'm trading with is 16 games behind me in my division and probably won't make playoffs, so I don't really have to worry about Hamilton giving me nightmares in the postseason. Is this worth it? My current roster is:
C J Montero 1B P Fielder 2b J Kipnis 3b M Moustakas SS D Gordon MI B Zobrist CI H Ramirez OF J Hamilton OF G Stanton OF M Trout OF A Rios OF C Young UTIL C Maybin BE C Quentin
DL E Longoria
P M Cain P CJ Wilson P B Beachy P G Gonzalez P J Peavy P Mat Latos P Johan Santana P S Casilla P K Jansen P R Soriano
With all my multipositional eligibility (Hanley at SS/3B and Zobrist at 2B/OF), I can move pieces around to fit Votto in my roster, but I don't see the point in getting Markakis as the kicker, as I don't really see any upgrade there over my current outfielders (aside from Quentin, who is just a bench filler who won't see much time in my lineup anyway).
Any 2-for-2 counter offer you would recommend that I send? Some of the players I'm interested in are BJ Upton, Jacoby Ellsbury, Elvis Andrus, and Jered Weaver. I have no problem trading for an underperforming/injured guy at the right price if it means I'll be better off in the playoffs.
Votto for the more consistent play. Hamilton if you are looking to take the risk that he doesn't get injured and that he keeps up his pace. For a first place team, I like Votto.
I don't think it's enough for a guy like Hamilton who is basically a machine in terms of production. Votto is solid but he's not in a lineup that's going to produce over the course of the season like Hamilton is. Markakis is an afterthought I think. Hamilton is easily a keeper for me if I could ever get him in a deal.
I don't mind this deal....Sure Hamilton is a "Machine" but that is a "creaky" machine that is injury prone. sure to sit 20-40 games this year. One would think. BUT big BUT, you need to improve on your return of Markakis, as he would be sitting on your bench after this deal is completed.
Andrus (TEX) might do. bump up that SS position.
But you are fine staying status quo, with Hamilton.
I would do the deal. Hamilton is an injury risk and Votto is not. You are already in 1st place and you get a top 5 player that you can feel relatively good about playing the rest of the year. If you are a gambler you can stick with Hamilton and hope he stays injury free (he has not been able to do that during most of his career).
Non-keeper league, I assume. You are never going to get as much for Hamilton as you will right now. I would sell high. I like your team. Getting Votto and Andrus would be excellent.
