Bigmck, it appears to me that the people in that league are not properly valuing holds when they pick their players. In MLB as a whole, there have been 374 saves and 694 holds to date this season. Based on that, I would assume there are some teams in your league that are focusing on saves (as that is the more traditional category) rather than splitting their attention equally between saves and holds.

Those figures are interesting. I suppose it is because the pitching spots only allow 4 relief pitchers at any one time, probably at least two of those being closers. I think I will rethink my "Hold Strategy" based on your figures. Thanks,

Did some more research. For this season to date, the 32 players with the highest number of holds have a total of 291 holds. The 32 players with the most number of saves total 301 saves. In case anybody is thinking that closers must be better pitchers than middle relievers overall, the top 32 in saves have a combined ERA of 3.32 and 600 K's. The top 32 in holds have a combined ERA of 2.94 and 668 K's.
