What are your thoughts? I'm conflicted, and am a homer so I don't know what to think objectively. I waited until the very end of the draft to get him because I felt he would produce solid bottom end starting C numbers with pretty much no price, after raking all of spring training. Going for him, he's batting behind Braun, which, as we've seen so far, means some double steal opportunities, let alone RBI opps. Also, Roenicke, who helped groom Napoli over at LAA, said he should develop into "one of the best offensive catchers in the game" coming into this season. However, I remember a point about this deep into last season where he was also batting over .300 and he has room for more power with 12 dingers last year in his rookie season. Also, his current BA with RISP and two outs is something like .670, obviously not going to last for long.
I'm a firm believer in the 'you don't draft catchers until the last rounds' philosophy, so Lucroy was definitely on my list of guys to target very late. I've had him on my team for a while now (drafted Doumit, dropped after a couple weeks) and have been very pleased.
His minor-league record is clean, .298 AVG, .838 OPS which seems to be coming together this year in the majors. Of note, he's walking more and striking out less this season but his power seems right in line with last year for the most part.
I'd be comfortable calling: .290 - 15 - 70 - 50 - 5 for the 2012 season.
I expected something like .270-.275 AVG, 12-16 HR and a couple steals so he was a good end of draft in 1 C league or early 2nd C in 2 C league type value. I don't really buy that he is going to hit over .300 or suddenly be a 20+ HR guy. The fact he got hot early and moved up in the lineup adds some value for sure though since he originally was going to bat 8th all year.
