I've been hearing that people don't like Floyd cause he tends to implode randomly, and last night's game didn't look like a good sign. Wei-Yin Chen on the other hand, has been looking really good and has been pretty consistent so far, even when going up against tough teams. The only concern I've heard is that his main pitch is a fastball, which is amazing, but when hitters figure that out he may not be as great unless he improves his others. Also, Floyd does get more K's, which is my worst category.
What would you do? Hold onto Floyd, drop him for Chen, or maybe someone else? Will try my best to help in return (I'm new to this, so can't promise I'll be helpful).
I'm in a 14 team mixed league, h2h (R, HR, RBI, SB, AVG; H, ER, K, ERA, WHIP). No keepers.
C - Yadier Molina 1B - Konerko 2B - Zobrist 3B - Michael Young SS - Asdrubal Cabrera 2B/SS - Mike Aviles 1B/3B - Jose Bautista OF - Angel Pagan OF - Carlos Beltran OF - Luke Scott OF - Andres Torres OF - Andy Dirks UT - Adam LaRoche Bench - Kyle Seager Bench - Jarrod Dyson DL - Ellsbury
SP - Clayton Kershaw, Matt Cain, Ted Lilly, Gavin Floyd, Joe Blanton RP - Rafael Betancourt, Joel Hanrahan, Heath Bell, Fernando Rodney, Santiago Casilla
Other FA - Phil Hughes, Wade Miley, Henderson Alvarez, Ryan Vogelsong, Jake Westbrook (gets off the waiver wire tomorrow)
Chen looks like a nice speculative play....Vogelsong is indeed tempting, but the Giants are going to win him many games. Baltimore/Chen are hot, so run with it.
Yeah, I'd take a shot on Chen...but I'd probably drop a closer to do it. If you don't want to though, you could probably be pretty safe dropping Floyd.
Thanks for the replies. You guys have made me think of letting go of a closer, but I think I should try to trade one rather than dropping one, since they're all pretty valuable. Heath Bell is my weakest link, and I'm first in saves without his help, so I'm thinking of offering to trade him for another SP, hopefully someone better than I can get of the FA list.
I dropped Floyd for Chen myself, join me. I was waiting for Floyd to poop the bed and then the party was over and it was back to streaming only with him. He already has a short leash with most owners, grab Chen for this @WAS start (AL East pitchers <3 NL ballpark matchups) and the Nats really only have a mediocre lineup with stellar SP. Don't drop a closer unless it is a league with 1 RP slot and there are a bunch of closers available on waivers anayway
Disagree on dropping floyd. I'd rather drop joe Blanton. Floyd is going to have an excellent year and be about a #3 or 4 fantasy starter. People dropping him after one poor start are not smart.
