Also considering Mets second baseman Daniel Murphy

Which is the better move? Stauffer or Murphy?

Okay, for your solicited advice... Stauffer, especially in Petco.

Now the unsolicited: First I'd really try to trade a SP or two for a "bona-fide" closer. Even a second-tier guy like Broxton, or dare I say... Heath Bell??? I know he's been brutal thus far, but they spent too much money to make him a setup man. He's gonna get 80% of the saves in Miami by years end, and I'm sure his owner is ready to off-load him.

Buy low! Offer Smyly and/or Bedard. If you make a 2-for-1, you can keep Reed while Stauffer bridges the gap for what you'll give up. (I don't think they can keep Reed from closing games with as good as he's been pitching. Rough today, but everyone has a bad day or two.) You'll pick up a point or two here and there in a virtually untapped area for you. You're punting a couple points in SVs-- even if its only a FEW, its better than none.

Any thoughts on mine? ---> viewtopic.php?t=446868

Any low end closers available like Thayer, Dolis etc types?
I would deal for a shaky closer (Bell/Vealverde with Bedard) quickly.
