The Blue Gorilla?

In a recent posting "Cool Nicknames", a few replies had Brian Giles nicknamed 'The Blue Gorilla'. Is this really what he is known as? If so I moving him up a few of ranks, based on his nickname alone. 'Blue Gorilla Giles'.........I like it.

Ya, I've recently heard Brian Giles as the Blue Gorilla too. I hope it catches.

I don't get why his name is Blue Gorilla. Is this a reference to something that only old people know of? Maybe it's because his initials are B.G. :-?
