McCutchen trade

Postby Effrum » Thu May 10, 2012 6:05 pm

Since Mariano's gone down, I only have 2 closers, Kimbrel and League. I've been offered Matt Holliday and a "closer of my choice" for McCutchen. This is my first year in a keeper league, so i'm not very good at dealing with trades. Here are the closers he has:
Santiago Casilla
Jason Motte
Brett Myers
Joe Nathan
Jose Valverde

*Should I accept the offer
*If so, which closer should I choose
*should I counter offer

A couple other guys on his team that I have interest in are Harper and Stanton.

Here's my team:
Jesus Montero
Miguel Montero
Adam Dunn
Jose Altuve
Michael Young
Jose Reyes
Omar Infante
Brett Lawrie
Emilio Bonafacio
Melky Cabrera
Mike Carp
Matt Kemp
Cody Ross
David Ortiz
Aramis Ramirez
Ian Desmond
Jason Kubel
JD Martinez
Andrew McCutchen

Josh Beckett
Yu Darvish
Tim Hudson
Craig Kimbrel
Brandon League
Kyle Lohse
Mike Minor
Johan Santana
Jordan Zimmermann
Ryan Dempster
Ted Lilly

I would say no, as those closers of choice aren't the particularly stable or young kind. Holliday is also getting up there in age, so you'd be taking on most of the risk in the deal. However, if you could somehow pry Harper and a closer away for McCutchen you'd have to really think about making that happen in a keeper.

Good points. I might counter with the Harper/ closer for McCutchen, still not sure though, I like McCutchen, but I know you have to give talent to get it.

Harper and Motte isn't enough but its the best I see.

Don't do either. Keep Cutch!

So, what should I do about my saves situation?

Try a straight up trade. There's no reason to trade Cutch just to improve your bullpen. Closer jobs are such a crap shoot so check your waiver wire, see whats available. How many teams are in this league?

Buy guys that just "won" the closer spot
