Moneyball is less about BA and more about OBA. It's not like it helps their cause though. They are ranked 29th in MLB with a 0.289 team OBA at the moment.
Moneyball has absolutely nothing to do with OBP or AVG, it is about finding market inefficiencies and trying to exploit them. Front offices are about 10,000 times smarter than they were back then so it isn't as easy to pull off as in the past.
I didn't read the book, but I saw the movie. one of the things that moneyball seemed to include was they didn't believe in stealing bases, or more so in even taking the chance at stealing a base. forget that now. not including tonight's games the A's are 2nd in baseball in SB with 28 behind Miami with 32.
moneyball seemed to be all or mostly about offensive numbers, but I think they key to the A's success in the past was all the good pitchers they had. Hudson, Mulder, Scully, wait wrong name.. Haren, Zito, ect.

Ender is correct. I don't know how many times we have to go through this debate. It has been ten years and people still don't get it. I was just reading an article from September that bashed moneyball on fangraphs. Annoyed the crap out of me that seemingly smart people can miss the point by so much.
They didn't believe in stealing bases because with the amount of runs being scored, if you weren't successful more than 80% of the time, you were costing yourself runs. With pitching coming back, I'm sure stolen bases have become a bit more valuable. Again, see ender and my posts above regarding exploiting market inefficiencies.

This. Offense is down so much that stolen bases are more valuable thus lowering the necessary success rate to make attempting a steal worth it.

to be fair, OBP was the market inefficiency that was most notoriously exploited by Beane.
