Johnny Giavotella

this from rotoworld.
The Royals are expected to recall second baseman Johnny Giavotella from Triple-A Omaha.
The team is holding off on an announcement until he arrives from Sacramento, so if his flight runs into any delays, an official roster move may not happen until Friday. Giavotella, 24, is hitting .331/.408/.504 with five homers, 25 RBI and a .912 OPS over 152 plate appearances at the Triple-A level this season. He'll be worth considering in deeper mixed leagues if he is given regular playing time at second base, but Chris Getz hasn't exactly played himself out of the job. The corresponding roster move isn't yet known, but Bob Dutton of the Kansas City Star notes that left-hander Jonathan Sanchez has been dealing with biceps tendinitis.

this from CBS.
Royals recall 2B Giavotella: The Royals have decided to recall second baseman Johnny Giavotella on Wednesday and the infielder is expected to start against the Red Sox at Kauffman Stadium, reports the Kansas City Star. No corresponding roster move has yet been made. “He’s another right-handed bat,” general manager Dayton Moore said, “and we need another right-handed bat over the next several days with all of the left-handed pitchers we’re expecting to face.”

any idea what this means?
Chris Getz isn't bad at 2B. does Giavotella replace Getz full time if he can hit, or does this look like Giavotella is only coming up short term?
he has the potential. he has some power, speed, and hit well for AVG in the minors..

Keep in mind Yuni Betancourt beat Johnny out in spring training and when he's back Johnny could be right back in Omaha. None of the 3 Royals middles have done poorly, Giavotella has the most fantasy interest but I think theres a pretty good chance his stay will be brief this time

I scooped him in my deepest 12 teamer this morning. I have Mark Ellis as my starting 2B. So hopefully Johnny forces his hand.

Fan Graphs has a story on this just now, basically saying its a logjam/mess...
Still think JG's the 1 to own, tho I suspect its going to take a trade to open up everyday AB's after the AS break

It was a mess last year and a mess this year. I had both last year and wasn't impressed by either Giavotella or Getz.

Giavotella is in the lineup tonight batting 5th.

I find it hard to believe they would call up Giavotella just to platoon or come off the bench. if they only wanted a RH bat I'm sure they could have brought up someone else. I don't know the schedule, maybe KC is facing a bunch of LH pitchers and they don't want Getz facing LH pitchers.
but then again, why?
Getz 12 vs LHP- 15 AB - .200/.235/.267/.502
Getz 11 vs LHP- 98 AB - .286/.330/.306/.636
Getz 10 vs LHP- 46 AB - .304/.373/.326/.699
it's not like he has struggled vs LHP. 15 AB this season doesn't really count IMO.

it's also not like the Royals should be concerned about winning ball games right now enough to call up Giavotella to use off the bench/platoon when they are 10-19. they wont be competing for anything this season. their best move should be to give Giavotella all the playing time now to get the experience while they are not trying to compete, seeing as Giavotella is there future and not Getz.
