As a Boesch owner who's struggling HARD with AVG in a roto league, should I be dropping boesch for dirks? Should I drop Boesch at all, even for someone besides Dirks?
I wouldn't just drop Boesch, but it's hard to say that depending on who else is available. for now I'm not sure I would drop Boesch for Dirks, but Dirks looks like someone who should be owned. Boesch this season has a low .242 BABIP so he has been unlucky. but there is something that concerns me. his K's are up at 21.4 % compared to 17.6 % last season. his walks are way down this season at 2.4 % compared to 7.4 % last season.
Dirks is back in the lineup tonight and batting back in the 2 spot.
Thanks for the response. The stats you just mentioned on top of the HR Dirks hit tonight really make me want to make the move. I will probably pull the trigger tonight. I'm suffering BADLY right now hitting in my main league, dropping last in AVG yesterday and RBIs are coming right down with it.
For a slow Thursday night, Dirks was the most interesting man in the fantasy baseball world. Gotta get fastballs when A Jack is on, gotta get strikes every AB with Miggy and Fielder hitting behind him. At least when they are facing RHP, thats about as juicy a spot in the order to be hitting as any you'll find. I'm officially on the bandwagon 4-4, 3rd HR .383 avg
This reminds me of the Jed Lowrie thread last year.
I added him, will ride the hot streak, though I'm sure it won't last. Nothing about Dirks' minor league track record really blows me away and I think his upside is basically average power/avg numbers to go along with above average runs. When he inevitably slumps for more than a week he'll get bumped out of that #2 spot for a Boesch/Peralta/Young/Raburn/whoever's hot.
That said, I would add him in deeper 12 teamers and enjoy the short term boost.
Why did leyland pinch hit his #2 hitter who has been a bright spot in lineup in the 9th inning with runners on? Is going to a righty now more important than letting your better batters come through for you? dumb move imo
I would say above average power/above average speed. in the minors. in 2010 at AA in 388 AB he had 11 HR and 19 SB, then at AAA in 88 AB he had 4 HR and 3 SB. in 2011 at AAA in 157 AB he had 7 HR and 12 SB minor league career in 1141 AB he had this line- .292/.351/.430/.782
I'm guessing Dirks was pinch hit by Leyland because Dirks is left handed and there was a left handed pitcher on the mound. but it's not like Dirks isn't as good from the left. 12 vs LHP- 12 AB - 333/.429/.583.1.012 12 vs RHP- 54 AB - .389/.421/.667/1.088 11 vs LHP- 12 AB - .323/.323/.548/.871 11 vs RHP- 188 AB - .239/.292/.383/.675
from what I remember Jim Leyland doesn't change his lineup unless it's necessary, so even if Dirks is in a slump he wouldn't removed Dirks quickly.
