Simple Trade?

Postby Slippery95 » Mon May 07, 2012 8:17 am

5X5, standard scoring, NL only, 11 teams. I am first in saves and near the top in all the the hitting catagories. I need wins and strikeouts.

I offered another guy:
I get: Strasburg (SP) and Phillips (2B)
He gets: Guerra (RP) and Uggla (2B)

He countered with:
I get: Hart (OF) and Blanton (SP)
He gets: Betancourt (RP) and C. Young (OF)

I countered with:
I get: Hart (OF) and Strasburg (SP)
He gets: Guerra (RP) and C. Young (OF)

I am betting that he will counter in one of three ways:
1) Replace Blanton for Strasburg in the above mentioned deal
-or-
2) Replace Bentacourt for Guerra in the above mentioned deal
-or-
3) Both

Thoughts? Should I accept any of these assumed counter offers? I would really appreciate the guidance as I am still learning values.

I'm not sure why you're trying to get Strasburg from someone by offering spare parts. Both Strasburg and Phillips are better than Uggla and Guerra. In fact, even if you had taken Phillips out of that deal, Uggla/Guerra still doesn't equal Strasburg.

Personally, I would have taken Hart/Blanton for Betancourt/Young. In fact, I'd rather give up Guerra than Betancourt, since the odds of Guerra finishing the year as closer are slim. Young is streaky, and started great, and then got hurt. Who's to say he's going to be on that same hot streak when he comes back? It was a great opportunity to sell high on an unknown commodity.

I agree 100%, Bentancourt is much better than Guerra, that is why I wanted to keep Betancourt and trade Guerra. Either way, what I am hearing you say is that you would indeed trade Chris Young and Javy Guerra for Joe Blanton and Corey Hart?

Well, I think it's more balanced than trying to pry Strasburg (especially in NL only) for spare parts.

Chris Young has always been talented. He started off very hot. Then he got hurt. I guess what I was trying to say is I'm not sold on him doing what he did those first 3 weeks over the whole season.

Guerra will not be closer for the Dodgers by the end of the season. Probably even by the All-Star break. So his value is diminished (granted, in an anticipated way).

Corey Hart is a solid #3 fantasy OF, whereas Young could be a #1 on some nights and a player worthy of the bench for several weeks at a time. Blanton is...meh. If you could perhaps pry a pitcher with a tad more value than Blanton, it'd be a good trade. With Blanton? I'm interested...but I'm not sure I'd ultimately pull the trigger.

I am not sure I would call Young "Spare Parts" however I am very leary of this injury he has. Something just does not seem right about how long it is taking and the lack of information that is being released about it. I have a feeling that it is going to take longer than expected to come back and when he does I am not certain that he will be back to 100% anytime soon. Getting rid of Guerra and Young in the same trade would be outstanding for me.........although both are capable of putting up some great stats the odds are that atleast on of them will not live up to current or past expectations.

Because of that I would look to get Strasburg but I certainly understand my shooting a bit too high. I like Blanton but not in love with him. Hart would be fine but my outfield would be a bit shaky with Hart, Soriano and Worth.

Can someone sell me on Blanton and Hart please?

Thanks, Slippery

Corey Hart last two year average: 28.5 HRs, .284 average, 7 SBs. 80+ RBIs.

Chris Young last two year average: 23.5 HRs, .246 average 23.5 SBs. 80+ RBIs.

I'd personally take the extra 5 HRs and 40 points in average.

I can't sell you Blanton really...that's why I'd try and get someone else.
