Too much… or too little?

Postby blazed118 » Mon May 07, 2012 4:52 am

I am seriously considering offering a trade that would send Jimmy Rollins in order to receive the wonder boy, Stephen Strasburg. This is kinda on a whim, but I really like the idea of shoring up my pitching staff. I may be completely off my rocker, and please tell me if I am, but I'm thinking that this could be a difference maker in terms of having a championship team here.

It is a 10-team h2h, standard ESPN mixed league.

My team:
*Other eligibility in ()

C: Mike Napoli (1B)

1B: Lance Berkman (OF) *15-day DL, Mark Trumbo

2B: Robinson Cano, Jose Altuve

3B: Hanley Ramirez (SS), Jose Bautista (OF), Mike Moustakas

SS: Jimmy Rollins

OF: Matt Joyce, Matt Holliday, BJ Upton, Angel Pagan, Logan Morrison, Jason Kubel (DH)

**Note- I have been streaming pitchers up to this point with the xception of Lincecum, Price, Worley, and my closers.

SP: Tim Lincecum, David Price, Vance Worley, Derek Holland, Anthony Bass, Bartolo Colon, Edwin Jackson, Jeff Samardzija

RP: Chris Perez, Brandon League, Jonathan Broxton

This is an outrageously good deal for you. Take it and don't look back.

Well, since you're "considering offering it", that means that this was not an offer from the owner of Strasburg.

What that means is you're delusional. I wish you all the luck in the world in convincing the Strasburg owner to deal him for a broken down J-Roll that will be lucky to hit .275 and steal 25 bases. Strasburg will have an innings limit put on him, but you're guaranteed to have every single one of those innings that he pitches to count in a positive way. He'll still finish in the top 10 for K's despite pitching about 150 innings.

My guess is that you'll need to offer more.

Yea I didn't read through that very well. Please don't offer that deal, you probably won't even get a response. Make a legit offer or don't waste the guys time.

If the offer is there of course you take it. But like the others said I would doubt he would even counter offer. That is a pretty low ball offer on your part.

Wow, mpieco, was the insult really warranted? That's why I posted the question asking if it was too little or too much to offer, instead of: "hey thar, look at me! I'm gunna go fleece this dood!! Lawlz!!"

Look, I realize that it might be light on my end, but my reasoning is that while Rollins is getting old, he is still a top-10 player at his thin position. And I should have included the info that the person I am thinking of offering this trade to is definitely in need of some help at SS.

Anyway, opinions on what else I could offer to make this trade a bit more balanced would be greatly appreciated.

I didn't really insult you, but if you felt that way I'm sorry. Personally, I'd prefer someone to be brutally honest than sugar-coat something.

Because of Hanley and Bautista, you have SS and 3B covered. Granted, they are both playing below what many expect of them, but I think you can put those 2 players there and (eventually) not have to worry.

That means in addition to J-Roll being expendable, that Moustakas is also expendable. I think the pairing of those 2 could definitely net you Strasburg. If we could also see his roster, then I could see if a 3 for 2 would be possible. But I think a 2 for 1 of J-Roll and Moose comes a bit closer. Strasburg's value is sky high right now, especially with the way the Nationals offense is producing (better than expected).

Honestly with your roster and his need for SS I would think dealing Hanley for Stras/someone else (OF?) would be the only deal I could see. You could use Joey Bats at 3B and you have Moustakas who isnt terrible. You need help at SP and your OF could use some pop.
