Next closer to lose their job??

Postby TheGhost » Sun May 06, 2012 9:49 pm

All the closers in my league are owned... a couple owners hoard them and are serious waiver wire hawks. Im just looking for a shaky closer and the potential replacement that would take over. Thoughts? Thanks.

Has anyone grabbed Frieri in your league? Looks like he's the new guy in Anaheim.

All though he was given a chance for a save the other night and succeeded, Balfour was looking shaky for a bit.Keep on eye on him.

Help with mine?

Here is my list:

1 - Javy Guerra - every day it seems he gets closer to demotion - would be replaced by Kenley Janson (if he's available in your league)
2 - Jose Valverde - if he keeps blowing saves - would get replaced by Joaquin Benoit most likely, MAYBE Octavio Dotel. Keep in mind this would be a Heath Bell-like temporary situtation
3 - Grant Balfour - could be replaced by Brian Fuentes any time, any day (but keep in mind Fuentes isn't a very good closer either)
4 - Joe Nathan - locked in right now but has a history of blowing up midseason - would be replaced by Mike Adams
5 - Chris Sale - I'm not convinced he stays the closer long term (however he may). Probably replacements would be Matt Thornton (most likely) or Hector Santiago (least l
likely)
6 - Frank Francisco - good today, but may not last long - would be replaced by either Jon Rauch or Bobby Parnell.

Worth watching:
- Boston Red Sox - right now they are in a closer-by-comittee - someone is going to emerge eventually, keep an eye out for Aceves/Bard/Bailey
- Jordan Walden/Scott Downs will most likely switch back at some point
- The cubs are a mess right now, Rafael Dolis is probably the guy right now, but might change quickly if he doesn't perform
- Rafael Soriano/David Robertson
There's not a lot of "he's about to get replaced" out there today, but that can change any day...

What do you base this on?

no facts at all, just what I think will happen. Pure speculation

Guys/pens I'd keep tabs on in no particular order:

Cishek/Mujica
Frieri/Walden (if dropped)
Gregorson/D. Thayer
J. Benoit/Dotel
A. Reed/Thornton
Fuentes/R. Cook
Dolis/J. Russell/Wood

Hal·la·day, n. 1. every fifth day in Philadelphia. 2. a day of rest for the bullpen. 3. innings eater. 4. doc. 5. ace.
