Lance Lynn worth it?

Postby adamgreatjob » Sun May 06, 2012 5:49 pm

i'm in a h2h league with these categories: runs, home runs, RBIs, stolen bases, avg, wins, saves, strikeouts, ERA, and WHIP. There are 5 bench spots and only 1 DL spot.

Batters:
Matt Wieters - C
Michael Cuddyer - 1B
Kelly Johnson - 2B
Jed Lowrie - 3B
Elvis Andrus - SS
Shane Victorino - OF
Ryan Braun - OF
Yoenis Cespedes - OF
David Ortiz - UTIL
Cody Ross - UTIL
Drew Stubbs - BN
Evan Longoria - BN
Pablo Sandoval - BN
Michael Morse - DL

Pitchers:
Tim Lincecum - SP
Ian Kennedy - SP
Alfredo Aveces - RP
J.J. Putz - RP
Santiago Casilla - P
Matt Moore - P
Chad Billingsley - P
Anibal Sanchez - P
Tim Hudson - BN
Ricky Nolasco - BN

Pablo Sandoval and Evan Longoria are both injured for a few weeks, but I found an adequate replacement for my 3B spot in Jed Lowrie off FA. Here's the trade being offered to me:

Jimmy Rollins, Pedro Alvarez, and Lance Lynn for my Elvis Andrus and Matt Moore

I like the trade, I really do. I'll probably throw Jed Lowrie in the SS spot and use Pedro Alvarez in my 3B position since Rollins isn't doing so hot at the moment. Matt Moore is off to a REALLY slow start and Lance Lynn is Superman. And once Sandoval and Longoria come back, I'll be rockin' again. What do you guys think?

Hard to say whether Lance Lynn will keep it up. Andrus is playing great, much rather have him than Rollins. Matt Moore is easy to give up and Alvarez is a nice bonus. It depends on who you would drop. I think in the end I would be hesitant giving up Andrus until Lynn puts up 1 or 2 more quality starts.

Its a pretty fair deal, but I would rather be on the receiving end of Andrus/Moore

My Opinion on the rest of the season:
I would rather have Elvis Andrus instead of Jimmy Rollins + Pedro Alvarez. Rollins is starting to show age and I really don't like the fact that 1/3 of Alvarez's AB'send in strikeout (it wouldn't surprise me to see him back in AAA by July 1--plus once Longoria/Panda come back you'll have no room for him). Andrus is on a good team and playing well.
Lance Lynn > Matt Moore, but I would rather have Moore going forward from here (I'm a Matt Moore believer and think he's going to have a good summer). This one is almost a wash.

I don't trust Lynn or his spot in the rotation, although if Carp ever comes back I guess Westbrook could get sent to the pen. I would rather have Moore/Andrus.

I believe Lynn WILL be a top 30 SP this year, but expect some regression. He's had an easy schedule thus far. However, Lynn K/9 is for real. He has a good cutter, a mid 90s fastball, and a decent change up. He also is not a fly ball pitcher and induces ground balls. Couple that with the decent team he plays for and I wouldn't be surpised if he finishes with something like 3.10, 180ks, 16-17W, 1.10 WHIP. Very nice #s indeed.

Not doing the deal. Lynn is great and all but he is not going to be this good all year. I wouldn't be surprised if Moore and Lynn were very similar in value at years end with even the possibility that Moore has more value. Andrus is easily better than Rollins and Pedro.
