Now that's we're over a month into the baseball season, it's time to take a look at the standings. I for one don't glance at them very often, so when I did this morning there were a few surprises. I knew, generally, how teams were doing, but still...
AL East:
Tampa Bay (19-9) - 0 Baltimore (18-9) - 0.5 Toronto (16-12) - 3.0 NY Yankees (14-13) - 4.5 Boston (11-15) - 7.0
I don't know, I have Mark Reynolds on a couple teams so I guess I assumed Baltimore was sucking it up. Is this the year Baltimore or Toronto makes it into the top 3?
AL Central:
Cleveland (14-11) - 0 Detroit (13-13) - 1.5 Chi White Sox (13-14) - 2.0 Kansas City (9-17) - 5.5 Minnesota (7-19) - 7.5
Kansas City is losing at a familiar rate. Maybe people jumped the gun on the whole breakout thing. I guess the biggest shocker is how much Detroit isn't running away with it.
Texas is just disgustingly good. At this point, realistically only a serious injury to one or more of their big players could derail their playoff plans. Seriously, they should just print the tickets now.
NL East:
Washington (18-9) - 0 Atlanta (17-11) - 1.5 NY Mets (14-13) - 4.0 Miami (13-14) - 5.0 Philadelphia (13-15) - 5.5
I knew the Nationals were doing relatively well, but damn. Who's willing to say they'll keep it up?
NL Central:
St. Louis (16-11) - 0 Cincinnati (13-13) - 2.5 Houston (13-14) - 3.0 Milwaukee (12-15) - 4.0 Pittsburgh (12-15) - 4.0 Chi Cubs (10-17) - 6.0
Not too many surprises here, although Houston hanging tough near .500 is noteworthy.
NL West:
LA Dodgers (18-9) - 0 Arizona (14-14) - 4.5 San Francisco (13-14) - 5.0 Colorado (12-14) - 5.5 San Diego (9-19) - 9.5
The Padres get the prize for being furthest behind at this point in the season. What is the prize? Losing their best pitcher for a year. Hooray!
