Almost a year to the day from breaking a hamate bone in his other hand he unfortunately does it again.
Who will play 3B for the Giants. Short answer is there is no clear candidate. Connor GIllespie has been called up from AAA he has been having a good season so far: 362 avg 939 OPS but it is the Pacific League which is hitter friendly. Other possibles are Burris (don't pick him up, he;s fast and will get you SBs but not much else) Theriot (say no more). More interesting are Pill, who will give you good numbers IF he plays, and given his very limited experience at third I do not expect it to be much. Last Option (but interesting) is Arias who was called up recently to sub-in for Huff and has been playing well. He is a SS, does not yet qualify for 3B, was a bit shaky in ST at third, but Bochy might give him another shake there.
Takeaway - if possible look elsewhere for a sub (last time Sandoval missed 6 weeks) otherwise in one of my deep leagues I will be picking up Arias hoping he does play, and will be looking at Gillespie.
They called up Connor Gillaspie to play 3B and Pill got an inning there late in the game today. Posey could theoretically also play third. It's an incredible cluster at the corners, and at 2B.
If Pill has at least as much range as Tejada last year (so more than a single step in either direction) did and can even remotely field grounders, he is defintely the best solution. Hes the only hitter the Giants have that possibly has a chance to match even 70% of Pablos production. Which means Bochy wont even give it a legitimate chance, and will likely turn to a Theriot/SomeOtherTerriblePlayer platoon
