5/2 Cheering, Venting, & a Big SALE!!

Postby bigh0rt » Wed May 02, 2012 9:33 am

News, Notes & Nonsense:
- Chris Sale threw his 4th Quality Start in 5 tries in 2012 last night, notching 3 strikeouts in the process and earning the Win. So far he's brought a huge return to his owners this season.

- Matt Moore failed to go longer than 5 innings yet again, running his pitch count to over 100. While he couldn't record the QS, he fanned 7 Mariners and did pick up the Win.

- Jesus Montero collected 4 Hits in the aforementioned Rays match up, and with teammate Miguel Olivo headed to the DL, those waiting for him to gain C eligibility in ESPN leagues and others with 10+ GP for eligibility are doing a mini dance of joy.

- Matt Kemp didn't hit a Home Run. So Andre Ethier did instead. So did teammate Dee Gordon, who has now hit more baseballs out of the ballpark in 2012 than Albert Pujols. Big money!!

- Chris Davis and Pedro Alvarez belted their 5th and 6th Homers, respectively, last night. Do either of them attain 30+ on the season and finally reward those who have rostered them?

- Yadier Molina stole 2 bases against the Pirates. That's not a typo.

- Jerome Williams notched a complete game 3-hit shutout against the Twinkies, striking out 6.

- Trevor Cahill and Jarrod Parker were almost equally impressive, both earning Quality Starts and Wins for their respective teams, pitching 7.1 and 6.2 innings.

- Shaun Marcum failed to get a single run of support, one night after Ryan Braun allegedly hit 3 home runs in a single game, taking a No Decision in a loss to the Padres despite going 7 innings and not allowing a single Earned Run.

- Corey Luebke will miss his start today against the Brew Crew, with a sore elbow.

Anybody have enough hair on their peaches to start Romero vs TEX today? With Luebke missing his start, and the game being a pick 'em (Romero was an early favorite, but it's moved Texas' way, reasonably so). :-o

I'm actually going to do it. I get 10 starts per week, it's Points, and despite Texas putting up a touchdown or more every night, I'll roll the dice because I don't see myself hitting my 10 starts without him, and I'd hate to leave points on my bench.

No starters going today. Having a hard time juggling my OF/Utl spots with so many hot bats (Hunter, Joyce, Altuve, Martinez, Pagan, Campana.) Not a bad problem to have though.

Anyone watching the Royals/Eric Hosmer this season? I got to catch one of their games in Cleveland, and he missed a homer to center by about 2 feet. It would have been out on any day that wasn't wet and foggy and cold.

Anywho, I'm praying he can get things going again soon. I'm not worried too much, as his poor stats this season seem to be fueled by a .155 BABIP. All of his other underlying numbers (GB/FB, LD%, GB%, etc) are all exactly the same as they were last year.

I can only manage 2 starters (benched - Arrieta and Hendriks) out of all of those games? I guess that's okay since my starters were on fire yesterday. Volquez and Sale. Parker and Cahill with Cashner stealing a win.

I'm probably crazy, but I'm throwing McCarthy out there in Boston tonight. I very rarely bench starters, and I'm rolling the dice tonight. Already losing ERA/WHIP by a decent amount, and it's very close in Ks and Ws, so it's a gamble I think I should take.

P.S. I completely 2nd what was said about Homser earlier. I honestly think the guy is just getting unlucky, and I really think we'll see a good turnaround. Owners, stay patient, and if you aren't an owner, I don't think it would be a bad idea to try to buy low.
