aside from a great streaming option because of the matchup and location..27/4 K/BB ratio this year in the minors looks like he may be putting it all together and has some upside

Scott Van Slyke is being called up by the Dodgers with Juan Rivera going on the DL.
Dodgers recalled OF-1B Scott Van Slyke from Triple-A Albuquerque. The son of former outfielder Andy Van Slyke, Scott was hitting .336 with eight homers and 25 RBI at Albuquerque. He should see some time in left field with Juan Rivera out, and he could also occasionally spell James Loney at first base against left-handers.
this is what he was doing in AAA. .336/.411/.623/1.034/ 8 HR/ 20 R/ 25 RBI/

Those are PCL stats. Grain o salt! He's not going to see too much PT.

I might have missed it, but wasn't Rivera getting regular playing time? shouldn't Van Slyke get that playing time? or does Abrue get increased playing time? if they're going to just play Abrue, why bring up Van Slyke? I have no idea where Van Slyke ranks for prospects. as for PCL. sure it inflates numbers. there's a player right now the majors with 8 HR who last year in the PCL had 38 HR. Bryan LaHair. Van Slyke still has power. 11- 22 HR in AA. 10- played in A/AA/AAA, not sure what was going on. 09- 23 HR in A+

Rivera was getting a majority of the PT. Van Slyke will see starts vs lefties, but I would expect Abreu to get more starts. He' already 25 yrs old, so it's not like he's being rushed. He can help the team without starting. Hairston is also hurt and Mattingley uses his bench every night.
I saw a comment in ESPN's Top 12 for 12 article on minor league prospects that: " the magic service-time date has been passed on the calendar".
Can someone elaborate on what this means? Does it mean that there is no more financial incentive for clubs to keep minor league players down at this point? I was thinking that deadline was usually early June but maybe that has changed.
Early in the 2009 season, before Wieters made his MLB debut, I explained why the Orioles might delay his callup until early June. "He won't accumulate more than 126 days service time. This would likely prevent him from becoming a Super Two and would likely save the Orioles millions of dollars in years ahead." As frustrating as it can be for fans to wait while MLB-ready prospects play in the minors, the Orioles weren't going to contend no matter what in 2009 and they are undoubtedly better off paying Wieters $500K than $3MM in 2012.
