Jon Lester trade WHIR

Postby baegames » Sat Apr 28, 2012 7:04 pm

Looking for pitching. I was offered this deal:

I get:

Edwin Encarnacion (1b/3b)
Jon Lester (sp)

I give:

Brett Lawrie (3b)
Jim Johnson (rp)

What kind of a drop am I getting from Lawrie to Encarnacion? big or small? Is it worth it to get Lester, knowing there is a chance he does not turn it around.

Based on feedback here, I am considering making the following counteroffer:

Encarnacion
Lester
Henderson Alvarez (sp)
Lorenzo Cain (of)

FOR

Lawrie
Johnson
Justin Masterson (sp)

It is an AL Only league where I like having my starters on different teams (so I can start/bench based on opponents), and I already have Josh Tomlin. I may be willing to throw in Greg Holland if that'll get it done, but I am not offering him.

Thanks for responding to my question.

It sure looks good right now, which is what I think you're trading partner wants you to think. I would ask for one more player to be added to this deal. A decent 4/5 SP or OF maybe.

Encarnacion is a very streaky hitter going from red hot to ice cold. He certainly is red hot and may put up better numbers than last year, he is usually a notorious slow starter. As for Lester you can get him for slightly lower than normal right now so maybe try a counter to see if you can get another player.

I don't trade for E5.. it's a pretty standard rule I have. He looks like an MVP for a month.. then he looks like he should be sent back down to AAA the next month. Maybe this is his year, but I wouldn't hold my breath. He's done it before.

1st trade. You win on the Lester side, but I think you lose too much on the Lawrie part.

The second deal I find more appealing.. But I still pass. Jim Johnson is secure in his job. and Lawrie is slated to be a bad-ass. I personally would keep'em, but AL only there is an argument for both sides. Masterson for cain/alvarez is a pretty sweet deal.

Seeing the rest of your team would help tho.. you didn't say whether this was keeper or no? and how many teams?

I actually like both deals for you. Adding Lester could be a nice move to bolster a staff. Don't think Lawrie to EE is as big a drop as others. Yes he's streaky, but final numbers will be decent.

help?

I am a little concerned about the direction the Sox are taking. I think their management is taking reactive strategies to last year's debacle vs. a proactive, more responsible approach that would help the team in the long run. Stay away from Boston players this year!

Good deal for you. Lawrie is a bit overrated given the hype. E5 might very well outproduce him this year batting higher in the order.
