Notes From Last Night:An interesting night for closers. Pedro Strop picked up another save filling in for Jim Johnson who is battling flu-like symptoms, but there were other not-so-admirable performances.
- Alfredo Aceves loaded the bases with a one-run lead but was able to retire Denard Span to preserve the win. More embarassing for the Red Sox was Bobby Valentine submitting a lineup under the assumption that Liam Hendriks throws lefthanded. He blamed the incident on his cellphone. It's good to see such thorough preparation by the most scrutinized manager in baseball.
- Hector Santiago gave up 3 runs on 5 hits in the bottom of the 14th after his team scored 2 in the top half of the inning. Addison Reed pitched a scoreless 9th in a tie game, with two strikouts, and has yet to allow a run this season.
- Javy Guerra took the loss for the second time in as many days, following in Hector Santiago's footsteps by allowing 5 hits and 3 runs while also only managing to get one out. Kenley Jansen pitched a scoreless 8th for his 5th hold.
- The Royals managed to end a 12 game losing streak with strong performances from Alex Gordon, Billy Butler, and Eric Hosmer who knocked in all 8 of their runs.
- The Washington Nationals were able to move to 10 games over .500 but are without Ryan Zimmerman for the foreseeable future, as he suffers from a chronic case of Scott Rolen Disease. An MRI revealed no major damage, but he is unlikely to see any game action until mid-May.
- Matt Kemp hit his 10th homerun of the young season, and Dee Gordon stole his 10th base. The sun also rose this morning.
