Drop Ryan Howard for Alex Rios? WHIR

Postby Leiter Fan » Tue Apr 24, 2012 4:53 pm

I am in a 12-team 6x6 H2H daily transaction keeper league that counts hold and OPS, and has individual OF positions. My team has been bitten by the injury bug and I have 3 hurt players (Howard, Ellsbury and Storen) with only 2 DL spots. In my opinion, Ryan Howard is the most expandable of these three hurt players, especially since there is still no clear timetable for his return and there is no guarantee he will have his power stroke even when he comes back. I had picked him up as insurance at 1B, but since Dunn and Morales are looking good, that is less of a priority now. I am looking to pick up Alex Rios, who has CF and RF eligibility (which in my league makes him multi-positional).

Is this a good move for me? Ort is there someone else more droppable?

Thans for the help, and as always let me know if you need help with any of yours. Just be sure to leave a link!

My roster:
C: Buster Posey (C)
1B: Adam Dunn (1B)
Ryan Howard (1B - Injured)
2B: Jason Kipnis (2B)
SS: Starlin Castro (SS)
3B: Evan Longoria (3B)
LF: J.D. Martinez (LF)
CF: Carlos Gonzalez (LF, CF, RF)
RF: Jason Heyward (RF)
Util: Drew Stubbs (CF)
Bench: Kendrys Morales (1B, RF)
DL: Jacoby Ellsbury (CF)

SP: Cole Hamels, Mat Latos, Jordan Zimmermann, Max Scherzer, Matt Moore, Mike Minor, Jarrod Parker
RP: Jason Motte, Frank Francisco, Alfredo Aceves, Vinnie Pestano
DL: Drew Storen (RP)

i agree with you. howard should go. as you said, you got some 1b backup plans in dunn and morales. i think everyone on your team has more upside than howard except maybe aceves. but i've been really down on howard for a couple of years.

I think you should take a different look at things. Would you start Howard over who you are starting now? If you're not going to start him over someone, he only has value as a backup. In which case, factor in injury history of Dunn and Morales. If you start him over someone, how much difference in production would you get? Is that production more or less than Rios would get you over who you'd start him over? If you're not starting Rios over someone, then compare his value as a backup to Howard's value as a backup. To me, I see Howard having more value to you than Rios. I'd consider dropping a reliever.

I dont like Howard here. Especially on your team. Move on and get some wins! No need for him on the bench hurt.

Help.....

I'd drop Pestano instead..Perez isn't overpowering but he's got the job right now.

Help?

As I previously stated, my league counts holds. Dropping Pestano is the equivalent of punting that category, since he is my only setup guy. Therefore, I cannot do that.
