My CR is now (and would become 1b) Justin Morneau. I would want someone to back him up. I could go with one of these other names, but then I would not have as much backup benefit, so it would need to be obvious (though Morneau would be my only player without a backup then, and he would if Billy Butler plays 10 games at 1b):
Marlon Byrd
Shelley Duncan
Eric Thames/Travis Snider
Jonny Gomes
Andy Dirks
(I have an OF who qualifies at 3b, so I can make that switch to CR).
Well one of your problems might be wanting to have a backup for every hitting position. I don't keep bench hitters at all, and use all those spots on SPs to maximize the chance of winning pitching cats (as they only start once every five days).
That said, I wouldn't deal Miggy at all, unless something huge landed in your lap. Dangle Morneau as trade bait if you need to move a 1B.

Based on the league rules, it does make sense to have a single backup bench hitter (it is not a HTH league). I usually use one player who qualifies at multiple positions. I use the other bench spots for pitchers. To say, though, that it is useless to have a backup at every position is a ludicrous statement - it definitely depends on the league rules.

What in your league rules makes it so valuable to have back up for every position even if it's a scrub like some of the guys you were talking about replacing Cabrera with? I would pretty much guarantee it's not worth it.
