I have Hector Santiago, and I trust him not. The question is whether Robin Ventura does. At what point do I make the old speculative add with Reed and drop Santiago? The obvious answer is when Ventura hands him the job, but anyone with an inside scoop or intuition on this one? 12 Team H2H Daily with 6 Keepers Season to Season, each for 3 years max. * means a keeper entering this season Stat Categories: R, 1B, 2B, 3B, HR, RBI, SB, BB, AVG -- IP, CG, W, L, ER, ERA, K, SV, WHIP

As much as I like Reed over Santiago, and though it is pretty much a safe bet that Reed's gonna take and runaway with the job at some point, I think staying put for at least a little would be the right move.
Ventura's been pretty vocal about his support for Santiago, so I think it would take at least a few more bad outings. Wait and see for a few games. If Santiago does well, Ventura's got no reason to move him and he'll be there for at least another week or two, barring a huge blowup. And if he keeps on struggling, you'll hopefully be able to pick him up in a day or two.
There have been a lot (and I mean a lot) of "future closer" kind of guys that never actually became a closer. I don't like the speculative add with a closer because so much can happen.

Plus, it may not even be Reed. Who's to say that he doesn't do the dreaded committee to hold a mid-season competition for the job? That's when you need to be quick to the wire. I also own Santiago and Santos in a couple of leagues. Make sure you are able to grab on to something and hold tight. It's gonna be a bumpy ride.
Next in line would have to be Thornton, Reed might not get a crack at the closer role this season. Prior to the season I thought he would end up with it because I figured Thornton would get the job and Reed would get 8th inning duties... But with Santiago owning the role and Crain and Thornton sharing the 8th inning role with Reed in the 7th inning... I just think he wont get a shot at it unless he his just pitching THAT much better than the rest of them.

Santiago very well could do that, but I wouldnt bank on it. I think adding Thornton would be pretty wise because you have to think Santiago's leash isnt very long, and he did JUST blow a save last night.
Besides this past appearance nothing has indicated that Santiago can't be this closer. I love Reed, but Santiago will keep the job until he shows he can't handle it, not anytime soon I predict, so ride the wave and enjoy.
