lol did anyone really expect him to come even close to keeping that up? the guy has proven time and time again that hes terrible at the MLB level. nothing has changed. nothing will

Go back a few years and guys were saying the exact same thing about Nelson Cruz. If a guy like that doesn't cost you much and you have a roster spot, there's no reason not to see how long their hot streak will go. Because sometimes things do change and guys do figure things out.
at one point he was one of the top prospects in baseball, he had high potential. at one point there was a Rangers player who was tearing up the minors but couldn't do shit at the major league level, Nelson Cruz. he didn't break out with the Rangers until his 5th year in the league at age 28. Davis is still only 26 years old. I don't think anyone was expecting Davis to hit for a good AVG, but the power is for real. he strikes out too often to maintain a good AVG, but full playing time could still high a high number of HR. because of the K's he is likely going to have his slumps. he's no Chris Shelton.

I don't think anyone's arguing that it's worth taking a shot for cheap/free and seeing how long the wave will take you. When the rocket plummets back to Earth, though, the reaction should be more of a "okay, back to usual" than a "oh man, what happened?!"

I'm not saying watch out Chris Davis is the next Jose Bautista, but I do think he has high potential. low risk, potentially high reward.
I likely wouldn't be owning him in a standard league, but I wouldn't write him off as if everything he did in April was a mirage.
no, Bautista never had any of the prospect hype that Davis had. so whenever he had a hot month everyone just wrote it off as exactly what it was - a hot month. Nobody ever thought he would amount to anything special fantasy-wise.
Davis on the other hand was supposed to be the second coming of god himself. whenever he had a hot month everyone used to think "oooh he finally figured it out!" and for some reason, lots of people still do. but he hasnt, and most likely never will, become that guy.
but why are people writing off Davis as if he can't still become good? he's only 26 years old. players don't typically break out until age 27? he still has potential, so there's still time for him to become the guy. I don't think he is as good as he was overall in April, but I also don't think he's as bad as he has been in May.
I think he's in a bad slump right now moreso than him reverting to old ways. Joe Girardi mentioned how impressive Davis looked earlier in the year and said he looked like a different player. That doesn't mean he'll break out this year but I think he's making progress. I dropped him in my league as he was killing my .BA but I'm going to monitor him and pick him back up when he heats up.
