Until something happens that says he's not worth adding, I'm quite happy with the production he's giving me.

Thats how you play smart, if you have a spot on your team.

Davis has serious pop but the problem has always been his high K rate and low BB and inability to hit lefties. For that reason he is a true platoon player but one that must be rostered while he stays hot. I doubt he keeps the BA over .300 but can hit 25-30 HR's even with only 400 plate appearances. He does look way more relaxed up at the plate this season and for sure has a sweet swing. Reminds of Josh Hamilton actually.

I think what everyone here really wants to know is:

Will Davis' obvious strengths outweigh his obvious flaws this year?

if you have a black hole at 3B or even 1B he's worth riding while he's doing well and Reynolds/Nickstache are probably the worst 2 hitters in baseball right now.

I agree with you on the BA that he probably won't be able to keep up a +.300 pace BUT I disagree with you on the platoon portion of it. While he is a lefty, when he has been hitting well* he has had very good splits against lefties:

2008: .279 v L | .287 v R
2011: .350 v L | .245 v R
2012: .385 v L | .323 v R

*I give the asterisk as your grain of salt. I'm just saying I don't buy that he can't hit lefties as well as righties, especially when he's been shown to dominate in the minors, I doubt his splits were as bad as 2009-2010.

I'm definitely enjoying the ride though, hopefully it keeps on rolling.

And with Youkilis now on the DL I have added Davis in two more leagues. He's one of my highest % owned now. :-o

the BABIP is high at .364 so the .316 AVG likely wont continue.

he has always had good LD%
12- 26.7
11- 25.0
10- 22.2
09- 20.6
08- 25.5

his HR/FB is higher than I think he can maintain this year at 22.7%, but he still has the potential for a good HR numbers.

his BB% and K% have improved this season.
12- 8.0 % - 23.0 %
11- 5.2 % - 30.0 %
10- 11.0 % - 29.4 %
09- 5.7 % - 35.8 %
08- 6.3 % - 27.8 %

he is now 26 years old, so maybe he is for real.

they even started him against the lefty lester who he was 0-10 career. they're that confident in him right now.
he did go 2-6 for the game though.

Anyone know if he changed something during the offseason like Bautista did a couple of years ago?
