I am in a deep 14 team league, Auction Style Fantasy Points......12 player Keeper League. Players have 3 year contracts then return into the draft/auction. We start the following weekly, (2-Catchers, 2-1B, 2-2B, 2-SS, 2-3B, 5-OF, 1-DH, and 8 pitchers)

When players get placed on the 60-day DL there salary can be back-dated towards your FAAB for the rest of the season, and one team in out league is hurting towards there FAAB (left) already......has inquired about Brian Wilson since he is finished, and is useless to me, he wants his $18 towards his FAAB for 2012 season.

I am trying to work out a deal with him, and think this is a good option for me, thoughts?

I GET:
1B - J.Smoak $14 (1) or C.Pena $10 (1)
2B - B.Phillips $24 (1)

HE GETS:
1B - A.Gonzalez $33 (3) (free agent at seasons end)
2B - M.Ellis $1 (1)
P - Wilson $18 (1) (other owner gets the precious FAAB, that he desperately needs to survive the rest of the long season)

I feel that Eric Hosmer is ready to get the "torch" passed and become my STUD 1B, for a 14 team league where we start 2 1B weekly, that is probably my position of strength. Correct?

I think Hosmer is certainly your stud 1B going forward, but it doesn't mean you can't have 2! Especially in your format. I think the trade is fairly even. Ellis to Phillips is about the same as Gonzalez to Pena. However, you know your league best. What could that extra FAAB get you? A difference-making closer? or not much at all? I like that Phillips is around another 2 years as compared to AGON for only this year.

Also, take into account what you could buy next year with the $33 of AGON coming off the books. How is the inflation in a league like this? Are you getting stars for $35 or are they going for $50+? Who else is a FA?

Assuming the FAAB isn't a massive factor for you, and that there isn't a difference maker you can sign with the money at the end of the season, I think you can do the deal and improve your 2013 and 2014 roster. In a traditional league setup I would not make this swap, but I think your mitigating factors makes this a "yes" for you.

Agree with the above poster. You're freeing up a decent amount of salary, and Hosmer is no slouch at 1B. I'd also take Smoak in the choice of him or Pena. But yeah...ordinarily I would say no, but I think with the whole FAAB and contracts element, the trade sets you up okay for the future and gives you some freedom for next year.

I am not sold on the deal unless you get some more back. Another mid tier arm or power bat is what I would ask for.
