[Points League] Boesch vs. Desmond Jennings

Postby sensejae » Sat Apr 14, 2012 10:02 pm

One thing that is confusing about playing in points league is that I have to ignore most of the current rankings available online because a lot of them are based on H2H or roto leagues. For instance, even though guys like Desmond Jennings and Rickie Weeks, who bat first in the line up, are ranked higher than guys like Boesch, who is batting second for Detroit, I feel that in points league, Boesch may be more valuable because he will drive more RBI's and long hits, which are more likely to add up to more points than singles, steals, and good batting average (the last has no value in my league).

While I have this feeling, this is my first year playing fantasy baseball, so I wanted to know what you guys thought before making this move.

Also JD Martinez is available.

I really appreciate any help! Thanks!

Using ZiPS rest of season projections for the two players using your scoring system.... (someone might want to double check me, i've had a few to drink)

Boesch - 528.5
Jennings - 661.5

This does *not* include the following stats..

Ground into Double Plays (GIDP) -1 Hitting for the Cycle (CYC) 20
Grand Slam Home Runs (GSHR) 10 Outfield Assists (OFAST) 5
Errors (E) -2 Double Plays Turned (DPT) 0.5

Those are not provided by ZiPS that I can find.. and I'm not going to hunt for them, you can if you want.

Still looks like Jennings is quite a bit more valuable.

Thoughts on mine? topic.php?t=444192

Rather have Jennings than Boesch. Would probably pick up JD while he is hot but don't really see a hitter I would drop besides Murphy but he has nice eligibility. Any pitchers to drop?

I have 12 SP's and 3 RP's. Guys like Lohse, Harang, Samardzija, Zito, Capuano. But the points league favors pitchers a lot.

Innings Pitched (IP) 3 Earned Runs (ER) -2
Wins (W) 10 Losses (L) -2
Saves (SV) 10 Blown Saves (BS) -5
Strikeouts (K) 2.5 Hits Allowed (H) -1
Walks Issued (BB) -1 Shutouts (SO) 5
Hit Batsmen (HB) -2 Home Runs Allowed (HR) -2
Wild Pitches (WP) -0.5 Balks (B) -5
Complete Games (CG) 15 No Hitters (NH) 20
Perfect Games (PG) 50 Pitcher Team Win (PTW) 1
Pitcher Team Loss (PTL) -1

I don't see Zito staying productive but you can always drop him later. Just don't start him, you never know when he will blow up.

Cool cool. I'll keep that in mind. I dropped Capuano for Porcello.

Quick question. Instead of Ricky Weeks or Howard Kendrick, would you consider picking up Jason Kipnis or Neil Walker?
