I was hoping to get some opinions on whether or not any of these hot hands are worth picking up or not. Should I buy into the hype this early? I'm fairly well in 1st after the first week so I'm not panicking, I'm just wondering if anyone see any no-brainer moves I should make as I've been out of the baseball loop for 4 years.
I'm in a Yahoo 9-team points league with a 100-transaction limit (9 used thus far) on the season and no waivers. Straight to FA. It uses the following scoring: Batting: R: 0.5 1B: 1 2B: 2 3B: 3 HR: 4 SB: 1 CS: -1 BB: 1 IBB: 1 GIDP: -0.5 Pitching: GS: 1 IP: 1 SHO: 2 ER: -0.5 HR: -1.5 BB: -1 HBP: -1 K: 1.5

I would drop Hammel, Hunter, and Vogelsong (Fister to DL) and pick up LaRoche, Samardzija, and Lynn.
And for the love of all that's holy, trade Starlin Castro for something good. Seeing him in your UTL spot is making me have some kind of emotion over here.

Package something like Castro and Jackson for somebody hurting at OF, even though I'm high on Jackson. Might be able to get quite a bit for him from those who are as excited about his potential year as I am. Then, pick up Furcal. He should score tons of runs in that lineup. I'm not worried about their production, what with them outslugging the Rangers, Brewers and Phillies in the playoffs, and picking up where they left off. Having a solid veteran leading off that lineup has me glad I stashed him during his poor spring training. .5 per run hurts, but his double digit steals and home runs to complement his 80+ runs doesn't.
Your offense seems fine to me, there really aren't any moves I think I would make in terms of dropping people.
On the pitching side of things, well, I'd probably cut Tommy Hunter loose. I'd also probably send Volquez packing...I just don't ever see him making a worthwhile fantasy impact ever again. I'd actually hold on to Jason Hammel...he always had good road splits when he was in Colorado, so now that he is out of Colorado, he definitely deserves consideration. I'm not sure why people are telling you to drop him
So, I'd drop Hunter and Volquez, and probably add...Samardzija and LaRoche. LaRoche provides nice pop for an offense whose only weakness is power (I don't really see any 30+ HR guy except Konerko). And you'll be kicking yourself if you had Tommy Hunter on your roster, and Samardzija ends up going for 12 wins and 175 Ks.
(In reference to an Aaron Hill for David Price swap)

Can't disagree with anything already said above... except make sure you grab Adam LaRoche. He seems ready to have a comeback year and Morse's re-aggravation of his lat tear might mean LaRoche is gonna be starting all year long.

Thanks for all the help. After some more research I dropped Hammel and Hunter for Lynn and Samardzija this morning. I realized there are plenty of FA's that are better than those two so I might as well try the two hot hands, see where they go. I'm working on LaRoche.
Another question for you guys. Another team put both Fielder and Pena on the trading block as well as the OF position. How far would I have to go to get Fielder in a trade? Something with Castro or Tulo perhaps? Fielder got 100 more points than Tulo last season with 33 more AB. Any other good trade options here?
His roster: Alex Avila (Det - C) Prince Fielder (Det - 1B) Dan Uggla (Atl - 2B) David Wright (NYM - 3B) Yunel Escobar (Tor - SS) Desmond Jennings (TB - OF) Bryan LaHair (ChC - OF) Yoenis Cespedes (Oak - OF) Carlos Pena (TB - 1B) Dustin Ackley (Sea - 2B) Ike Davis (NYM - 1B) Mark Reynolds (Bal - 1B,3B) Jose Tabata (Pit - OF) J.J. Hardy (Bal - SS) B.J. Upton (TB - OF) DL Carl Crawford (Bos - OF) DL
Clayton Kershaw (LAD - SP) Cliff Lee (Phi - SP) Dan Haren (LAA - SP) Anibal Sanchez (Mia - SP) Craig Kimbrel (Atl - RP) Kenley Jansen (LAD - RP) Colby Lewis (Tex - SP) Neftali Feliz (Tex - RP) Mike Minor (Atl - SP) Chris Sale (CWS - RP) Ubaldo Jimenez (Cle - SP)
