Citing the need for a good bat and a strong clubhouse presence Tampa Bay GM Chuck LeMar announced the signing to a one-year 500k contract of Don Zimmer. Zimmer figures to be a role player and come off the bench to spell the aging Tampa first basemen. He is a career .235 hitter.
A delighted Zimmer said he was "looking forward to the challange and punishing his former club for releasing him the way that they did." He also warned Pedro Martinez that the pitcher should watch for balls coming back at him through the box.
SPIN: this is a great move for the Devil Rays as it provides their young players with a role model. For fantasy players, however, this further decreases the values of Tino Martinez and Robert Fick. We do not expect Zimmer to become a starter.

I think the gvt should propose an amendment to the calendar going straight from March 31 to April 2.

Agreed. How many 'joke' (using the term loosely) threads are there right now?

The first one (Fabio Anchovio) was good. But we have to draw a line somewhere.
