My question is, should I trade my closers to lock up another category either pitching or batting at the expense of punting saves? If so, what sort of value can I get for Kimbrel?
I disagree with punting on Saves. Yes you might not win saves, but in a 10 team leauge where are you projected but finish with saves right now? Middle of the pack I am guessing OK maybe 4th or 3rd to last maybe higher. What will Kimbrel line be 5 W 45 S 130 K 1.75 era 1.08 whip with 80ip. King Felix wins what 16 games 220 K In 3X the amount of innings. I guess what I am saying Closers are just not a one category player. Kimbrel is going to give you good k's. I think it depends on what your max innings pitched is for your league. I think it will be hard to get good value for Kimbrel right now. He does have high value. Just looking at avg pick you could get sandoval, strasburg, price, cain, cruz. Mccann, lester. I am just now sure someone can afford to give up that much this early in the season.
I am not in favor of punting categories this early unless you went into the draft with that plan. I also don't think you will get enough back from your closers to really help you. Most people don't trust closers and are unwilling to trade too much for them.
So unless you can get something really good for them, I would stand pat and see where you are at in a couple months and then decide.

I've actually punted starters before. In 5x5, you can dominate 3/5 categories by having 6 closers... WHIP, ERA, Saves. Boom, you win pitching every week.
Yeah, that is the reason why they decided to cap closers to 3 this year. I think a few people were doing that last year. Not a bad strategy though if you can get enough decent closers.
