I was offered Buster Posey for my John Axford. I don't really have another good closer after Axford, but I'm waiting on Montero to get the C eligibility (which could take a month). Once he does, I don't really need him AND Posey. So the trade might make sense for now, but maybe not for the long haul. Should I do it anyway and count on being able to trade Montero or Posey later?
Team here: C: Jesus Montero 1B: Freddie Freeman 2B: Robinson Cano 3B: David Wright SS: Starlin Castro OF: Chris Young OF: Corey Hart OF: Nelson Cruz Util: Ike Davis BN: Bryce Harper, Justin Morneau, Yoenis Cespedes, Matt Joyce DL: Carl Crawford
SP: Justin Verlander, Matt Moore, Adam Wainwright, Johan Santana, Clay Buchholz, Vance Worley RP: John Axford, Carlos Marmol, Tyler Clippard, Jonathan Broxton, Hector Santiago
No sense in doing this trade to me you are losing too much long term for a little bit of benefit. Drop Harper who knows when he will even get called up or if he even performs when he gets there. Plus this isn't a keeper so value is way down on him. Pick up some scrub off the fa to plug in and wait till montero is eligible, drop said scrub, profit.
Streamers Yesterday > NONE (used all of weeks moves shuffling batting) Today > NONE Tomorrow > Duane Below Vs KC *Worley (> My guy ) (* Wanted but taken)
I would do it. The only thing holding me back from making the trade would be the scoring system you've posted. I would see what each player could realistically average in points per week. Closers are way too easy to acquire over the course of the season, catchers you are pretty much stuck with. Granted, most of the closers you can find in FA aren't going to be as consistent as Axford, but imo its still worth doing. See if you can package Montero with Axford to get an additional player in return.

Well the reason the guy is willing to trade Posey is because he already has McCann as well, so he doesn't want Montero.
Bump! Anybody else? Conflict of opinions here. My closers take a huge hit after losing Axford, but they also come with a ton of negative points if they blow it. Marmol's like a -11.00 this season already.
I don't do it. Your relievers take to big of a hit. Posey is a superstar at his position, but I think that montero will put up decent numbers, not posey numbers, but he won't hurt your team. these are catchers we're talking about and the difference between the best catcher and the 10th best catcher is not that big of a gap.
So we're at two nos, and one yes. Should I reject it then? I don't have a catcher (unless I add Carlos Ruiz) until Montero gets it. However, I also don't have a sure thing at closer after Axford. Really conflicted here.
Something else to consider. If Posey had played 160 games his rookie season (since he didn't really play last year), at 1.89 points per game he would have had about 303 points by the end of the season. Axford last year got 383 points the way our league is structured. So unless Posey is going to improve on his rookie season numbers, or I can minimize the damage by adding a decent closer, it seems like a net loss.
