Should I Drop/Trade all my Closers/RP's?????

Postby Alkaholik » Fri Apr 06, 2012 11:26 am

6 team AL only League(also in another same 6 team NL only).

Call me crazy, but after looking over the only Pitching stats in this league, i was thinking it would be a better bet to drop or sell off all my RP'ers and closers and replace with Starting Pitchers since there are Loss or Hits stats that hurt starting too many pitchers.

Pitching Categories:
Innings
Wins
CG
SHO
SV
K
ERA
WHIP

So really you do not get penalized by starting excessive Starting Pitchers, would i be better off giving up the Saves category and winning the IP, W, K categories almost automatically each week?

I currently have 5 starting pitchers and 5 RP's

I would just load my bench with SP and not carry a single bench bat. If you can start all 5 RP every day, do it. Then, I'd spot start accordingly where the matchup is good. You can throw out CG and SHO, and essentially look at this as a 5x5 league with IP, which does add to the value of SP. But if you have 5 RP going daily that'll add to your IP total and provided your league isn't streaming SP, as long as your bench is full of SP and you wisely spot start, you should be fine without sacrificing Saves in the process.

yea what i'm thinking though is that Starting Pitchers end up with much more Innings, Strikeouts and Wins than relief pitchers over the entirety of a year. Wouldnt nearly cementing those 3 and sacrafice saves be the better option?

I'm still doing the math and am just trying to feel out everyone else's thoughts.

Those league settings heavily favor SP's. You should try trade your closers instead of dropping them. If you can get anything of value or upgrade an existing player, go ahead and make the trade, even if you have to trade multiple closers at once

Trade some closers but keep some (in a 6 team league only, the average team has 2.33 closers, so 2-3 should keep you competitive. I may keep 4 if you have them). AS stated above, load the bench with SP, and, depending on league rules, and start them when they go, and do not be afraid to pick up SP for one start.

They really don't, though. It's essentially 5x5 with IP, which adds to the value of SP, but it doesn't completely sway the balance of power. The unfortunate thing is that no matter how many SP he carries, the CG and SHO categories are going to be a crap shoot over who wins them (or whoever owns Halladay and/or Lee).
