Yahoo 5x5 Roto I am a newbie, so any strategies with pick up would be appreciated. I was thinking an extra RP (like Reed) to help me across Pitching stats.
My team: C Yadier Molina (StL - C) 1B Pablo Sandoval (SF - 1B,3B) 2B Ben Zobrist (TB - 2B,OF) 3B David Freese (StL - 3B) SS Troy Tulowitzki (Col - SS) OF Jay Bruce (Cin - OF) OF Michael Bourn (Atl - OF) OF Yoenis Cespedes (Oak - OF) Util Hanley Ramirez (Mia - SS) Util Chris Young (Ari - OF) BN Joe Mauer (Min - C,1B) DL Carl Crawford (Bos - OF)DL
Pitchers SP CC Sabathia (NYY - SP) SP Madison Bumgarner (SF - SP) RP Matt Thornton (CWS - RP) RP Matt Capps (Min - RP) P Josh Beckett (Bos - SP) P Jeremy Hellickson (TB - SP) P Johnny Cueto (Cin - SP) P Brandon McCarthy (Oak - SP) BN Greg Holland (KC - RP) BN John Danks (CWS - SP) BN Joel Peralta (TB - RP)
Yeah I would probably go after a RP like Reed or Adams for now. There is a lot of stuff on the WW but I really don't see anything you can drop for them.
"In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and has been widely regarded as a bad move."- Douglas Adams
I like Trumbo (will qualify at 3B at some point) and Raburn as adds, but I too don't really see what to drop. Is this a 10-team league? If it's 10, and 5x5, I don't really see an absolute need to roster RPs that aren't closers, so a guy like Peralta is expendable. It's worth holding on to Holland, because if Broxton bombs (which many people expect), Holland would close.
I also am a little wary about rostering 2 catchers in a shallow league. If you could somehow package Mauer and ship him (not sure what to look for in return...he has a recognizable name, but doesn't really do much fantasy-wise), or maybe slide Mauer into your starting catcher role and ship Molina who is in reality a great catcher, but doesn't do much in fantasy either. The best attribute for both of them would be batting average.
It could be a good idea to at least keep an eye on Morneau and Cozart. They are two players that I like, and hope to see performing well this year.
I think you have a nice mix of speed on power on offense and could have enough pitching if Hellickson and McCarthy both take the next step. You could contend.
