1 game in and hitters are calling it the new Petco. Stanton had 2 fly outs that might have been HR elsewhere. Overreaction or is it going to play as big as it looks?
It's going to take at least a couple seasons to get a good read on how it will play. The wind, weather conditions, and the roof will all affect how it plays on any given day. Stanton crushed a ball to CF that the wind seemed to knocked down. A couple innings later Furcal squared up a fastball and it carried all the way to the wall. My guess is it will end up being slightly pitcher friendly, but there will be days where the ball carries a ton.

Here's the pitch on the way, a swing and a belt! Left field! Way back! BLUE JAYS WIN!

MLB Network had a special on the new park and they said this as well, that when the roof is closed it's going to be a graveyard, but when the roof is open the wind seems to carry the balls into the Outfield... That said, the roof was open yesterday and they didn't help Stanton's fly outs My guess is that it's going to play like a pitcher's park, but really who knows.

Yeah the balls seemed to carry better later in the game. MLB kept showing the flags but them didn't seem to be moving anytime last night.
Seems like that even with the open roof, it might be a bit difficult to mash one? I remember last night how the announcers claimed it wasn't going anywhere until Buck's double (which they exclaimed carried quite well).
The roof is only gonna be open when it's less than 80 degrees and 60% humidity, which in miami is almost never. I'd expect the roof closed most of the time which makes the park what sounds like petco east.
