Markakis and Feliz for Bonifacio and Scherzer [Trade]

Postby soupy56 » Tue Apr 03, 2012 1:39 am

I'm looking to improve at 3rd since Valencia isn't any good. Bonifacio fills that while giving me stolen bases. I think that Markakis will be subpar again this season and Scherzer is an improvement on the new starter Feliz. Should I make this deal?

Bonifacio (Mia 3B, SS, OF) and M. Scherzer (Det SP)

Here's my team:

i like this trade. you get three positions from bonifacio. scherzer was frustrating last year, but he might be more consistent this season. i don't know anything about feliz except that he's a good closer. i don't know bonifacio well but i think he's a speed guy. i think you could use a bit more pop in your lineup and maybe you should target a power guy at 3b.

good luck on josh johnson. i got him as my top guy in my team as well. i really hope he stays healthy.

im not really sure you can just write off Markakis that easily. If you really want to add the steals, Bonafacio's flexibility and stolen bases are definitely helpful, but i wouldnt rely on his average being that high again this season. Scherzer is very inconsistent. He can look like an ace one day, and get totally shelled the next. We haven't seen what Feliz can do over a full season, but I would imagine the Rangers will limit his innings down the stretch so I would consider the pitching side to be an upgrade for you.

I like this trade for your side, Too much unknown for Feliz, don't like that last year his K rate went significantly down (k/9 from 9.2 to 7.8) and walks went up(from 2.3 BB/9 to 4.3 Ouch) and this is only pitching 63 innings. Scherzer on the other hand had a slight dip in k/9 from 8.5 to 8.0 (career 8.7) but saw a bit of a drop in walks BB/9 from 3.2 to 2.6. These things I see as very reflective of control. Just hard for me to get on board with Neftali becoming a starter and being drafted where he is when he is showing a steady decline every year. I also like that Bonifacio has multi position eligibility that can be huge when you need a last minute substitution. So with all that said I vote to go for it.
