Go for it! I like Sale over Niese. Fortunately for me, both are on my FA's. I am about to do the same thing, except in my case Im picking up Sale instead of Niese.
Considering this only for 2012...I have to completely disagree!
Sale will be the better pitcher in the long run....and should have a better ERA, K/9 and WHIP this year....
BUT I would be surprised to see him over 150IP.
Meaning either they shut him down for a start here and there...or they limit his IP in every game to 4 or 5 if they really intend for him to make 30 starts. No team will risk blowing up an arm like his by jumping his IP by more than 30 to 50 games depending on player, team and circumstance.
Niese should pitch 180 to 220 IP this year with a 4ish ERA and 7 to 8 k/9
Niese is the play for this year....Sale is the long play.
If Sales is RP and will keep that designation throughout the year even after he starts...then he would def be worth picking up as you can slot him in as a RP and have an extra SP that day.
Not sure why so many people said Sale. He won't come close to Niese's numbers. By the end of the year, Niese will be the Mets best fantasy pitcher, and more than likely a top 40 option. Sale, THIS YEAR, is not going to wow. He could eventually, but I wouldn't buy into the recent phenomenon of relief pitchers turned starter.
(In reference to an Aaron Hill for David Price swap)
