Prices always go up, and it doesn't follow inflation. Look how much the Dodgers just sold for. Just wait to see how much Felix Hernandez gets in free agency, and then we can talk about how Cain is getting paid like a top 3 pitcher. That said, while it may be within the range expected for a guy like him, pitching in general is a risky investment. In fact, every time a player signs a big FA contract everybody says it's too much money. We're always comparing it to the precedent that was set 2/3/4 years ago. It's not like everybody just signed a contract at the same time, and Cain is making more than Halladay.
