Ricky Romero Under ratted!

Postby joeyg2323 » Fri Mar 30, 2012 3:52 pm

Yahoo ranks him overall 126 and SP 32.
Espn ranks him overall 79 and SP 22.
MLB ranks him overall 115 and SP 29.

I feel Ricky gets no love from the fantasy world. He should be considered as an elite starter and everyone over looks him.

Ricky has just gotten better year after year and isnt an injury concer.

2009- 29GS, 13-9, 178ip, 85 ER, 79 BB, 141 K, 4.30 era, 1.52 whip, .284 BAA
2010- 32GS, 14-9, 210ip, 87 ER, 82 BB, 174 K, 3.73 era, 1.29 whip, .242 BAA
2011- 32GS, 15-11, 225ip, 73 ER, 80 BB, 178 K, 2.92 ERA, 1.14 whip, .216 BAA

can you really complain about anyone of those years? can you imagine if this guy was on the yankees or boston what his record could look like or if he just did not pitch in the AL EAST.

If you look deeper into 2011 you see that Romero is no joke as he may have had one of the toughest pitching schedules around.

In 19 of his starts last year they were against winning teams.
18 were against playoff teams(pretending 2012 rules were in effect)
13 were against the BIG 3(Red Sox, Yankees and Rays)
other games were against Angeles twice, Tigers, Phillies, Braves and cardinals all once.

Against the AL East
13 GS, 6-7, 9 QS, 81.8 IP, 70 K, 3.96 era, 7.7 k/9
not stellar numbers but i would take that against those three teams.

Against the winnings teams
19 GS, 9-9, 14 QS, 123 IP, 92 k, 3.58 era, 6.7 k/9 (Shootout vs the champions Cardinals)
those are some pretty quailty numbers for teams like that.

All other starts
13 GS, 7-3, 11 QS, 97.8 IP, 80 k, 2.20 era, 7.4 k/9 (shootout vs the As)
those are very impressive numbers.

other notes:
gives you innings, doesnt get hurt, has great control, 5 solid pitches, can be a strike out pitcher or a groundout pitcher and is still only 27.

he should be ranked somewhere with greinke, haren and prince.

some SP that are above him that i see no reason to:
Cain, Bumgarner, Garza, Hudson, Latos, Zimmerman, Beachy, Pineda and Gio.

If you agree and would like to add or even disagree i would love to hear from everyone!
This type of discussion makes fantasy baseball better for me to see all the different views on players from everyone.

Romero is actually overrated, because people go off last years stats.
Don't expect a .242 babip again.
He's about a 3.75 era SP.

There is no way he should be considered close to

Cain
Greinke
Price

He's about a 3.75 era SP. how you come up with that as the last 2 years as well was under 3.75?

His career babip is .285. Why would anyone expect a .242 again?
He might be a 3.50 era guy, pretty good, but still overrated if you expect a 3 era again.

No to be ranked with Greinke, Haren and Prince for me. I'd say no to Cain too but the rest seems reasonable to be if you are high on Romero. He's a good pitcher but I don't consider him elite.

I do think he gets under-rated but he is by no means an ace let alone an elite starter. To be "elite" you need to get into the 200K club and he isn't there yet. More around guys like Garza, Latos and Zimmermann.

Romero had an era under 3 and won 15 games last year. I had him on my team last year and he was solid and I never was afraid to have him in my lineup. He is an elite pitcher in my opinion and he has not allowed a single earned run all spring. I have him as my the #2 pitcher on my fantasy team behind kershaw.
He is underrated no doubt.

RR is a star in the making. No he's not up there with the Haren, Cain, Greinke, and Price's of the league, but he's not far off. I consider him underrated to some degree, not overrated as suggested here otherwise.

I don't think anyone can go wrong with having Ricky on their fantasy squad. If he takes another step up from his great 2011, you have a stud SP here, if he isn't already considered one.
