Although I am not a regular contributor here, I always appreciate the advice I get from everyone and try to help out when I can so I thought I would ask you all the question I have been struggling with for the past week. My draft is tomorrow night and I am drafting in the 5 spot. I assume the top 4 picks will be Miggy, Albert, Kemp, and Braun. If that is how it goes, I can't decide between Tulo or Bautista so I'd like to have your guys thoughts. We start:
C 1 1B 1 2B 1 3B 1 SS 1 MI 1 CI 1 OF 3 U 1
Bautista has 3B eligibility. The 6th offensive category is OBP.
in 5x5 that would be a harder call but adding in OBP I'm gonna have to say Batista.
Team Izzy C Mauer 1 E5 2 Cano 3 ARam S Rollins CI LaRoche MI Altuve O Melky, Pagan, Morse, Hunter, Ruggiano SP Lee, Fister, Estrada, McCarthy, Lohse RP Chapman, Jansen, Frieri, Fujikawa Bench 1 Hart S Cabrera O Eaton U Ortiz P Marcum P Miller P Fernandez
I had the same pick in my 10 team H2H 8x8 league and was faced with the same dilema.
It turns out that Tulo was picked just before my pick so I went with Bautista. It's a tough call if both are available but I do like the fact that Bautista has 3B,OF eligibility.
Go with whoever fits best in your draft strategy. If you want a ton of HR's go with Joey Bats. If you want the best SS who contributes in every cat go with Tulo.
Thanks for all of the replies so far guys. I have been leaning towards Tulo, but everywhere I look I see Bautista ranked ahead of him so it has me second guessing myself. Without any justification considering he has now done it for two years in a row, for some reason I am still not 100% sold on JB. In previous years, I would think Tulo is a no-brainer given position scarcity, but 3B is becoming a thin spot too now.
RDP, my draft strategy is to take the best player available in the first three rounds, and then adapt based on my needs and who has been drafted/who is left thereafter.
Hanley over both IMO, but this wasn't about Cano or Hanley.
If it was I'd say after Hanley goes .320-25-35 this year he will be a top 5 pick again. Might as well take him now and not miss out.

While I could see Hanley doing that, I don't think he is as much of a sure thing to do that as the other guys are and I am not about to take on that kind of risk at #5.
I vote Tulo. In a league that size, positional scarcity means that much more. I know 3B is scarce as well, but I prefer the second and third tier 3b's to SS's.
