should i propose justin upton for troy tulowitzki? i think they're even, but i'd lose out on sb's, but i would also get a great upgrade at shortstop. he's got rollins on his bench, and i've tried multiple possibilities to trade for either of them with no luck. he probably wouldn't even go for this trade.

Personally I'd rather have Upton than Tulo, so I wouldn't even bother. I'd ride Scutaro at SS and keep a stacked OF. There's bound to be a SS pop up somewhere. Not to mention, you also have Aviles on the bench.

Probably a long shot, but what's the availability of Bonifacio? He probably has SS eligibility.

he (insultingly) proposed i give him pedroia/j upton/chapman for bj upton/rollins/aaron hill/hiroki kuroda, to which i replied that i wouldn't give him upton alone for all of those players

You would probably have a better shot at getting J-Roll. He'd come much more cheaply.

I'd go Jay Bruce/Scutaro/Marcum (or another mid-tier pitcher) for Rollins/Ichiro maybe? Maybe Carlos Lee instead of Ichiro if he doesn't like that.

The point being, his price is probably a bit too high for Tulo...and I wouldn't trade Justin Upton. Go for J-Roll if you want a SS upgrade.

Those SS choices are terrible.
Maybe Drew if he was healthy, but he's not, and he's never really put it together anyways.
You can't have Scutaro at SS.
D Young would offset some of the lose in the OF.
I take Tulo/Young over Upton/Scutaro by a lot.

The OF options are better than the SS options, I agree. I just think Upton's value is higher than Tulo, so he should try and get something else out of the deal.
