Cliff Pennington or Darwin Barney as backup MI off waivers?

Postby Benkei » Wed Mar 28, 2012 2:58 pm

12 Team 5x5 roto league .. . R, RBI, SB, OBP, SLG . . .2 C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, MI, CI, 5 OF, U, 9 P, + 5 bench spots

Trying to decide on a backup middle infielder to pick up and add to my bench and am interested in which guy straight up projects as the better overall player

Both guys are young, showed promise during isolated stretches of last year, had great exhibition seasons this spring, and earned batting spots at or near the top of the order.

I'm thinking Pennington because of the stolen bases, but it's close. CBS' player notes say that Barney bulked up in the off-season, which is always intriguing.

Don't listen to what CBS says about a players off-season. There would be a lot less down years if everyone that says they are in the best shape of their lives were actually in the best shape of their lives. Just a lot of spring training talk.

Saying all that, I think I would go with Pennington. I think he is the better bet and might have the longer leash.

Ditto on Pennington with the better bat and longer leash. He had a nice game in Japan today too (although that doesn't necessarily mean much).
(In reference to an Aaron Hill for David Price swap)

i'd go with barney. he should give you a .280 avg, 50 rbi's, and might even surprise with a decent amount of hrs. pennington's sb's are only gonna drop this year, and i think his lower avg makes him a worse choice.

help with mine?
