I wouldn't be too sure about that. If the Jays need a leadoff hitter Rajai is their man. He somehow manages to get 300-500 ABs every year.

Gose is definitely the man of the future and whoever plays CF is just keeping the spot warm of Gose. It might as well be Rajai as Rasmus. Nobody is talking about Rasmus as a long term CF in Toronto.

I'm with Ender on this - just too many negatives surrounding him.

Gotta completely disagree with you there. Rasmus still has the upside to be an allstar CF. If he plays like he did in 2010 he is on a completely different level than Davis. Davis has no upside offensively and has a noodle for an arm. Escobar is pretty entrenched in the leadoff spot, his career OBP is .40 points over Rajai. Even with how terrible Rasmus was last year his OPS was .60 points better than Rajai's. I don't see anyway Rajai becomes a regular in that lineup without injuries hitting.

I've always thought Rasmus was overrated but this is a little over the top. there's no reason that he can't be a .270, 25HR, 10SB fantasy option. In real life he can easily put up a .750 OPS with solid CF defense. that's a starter imo.

As long as he keeps the job long enough to make the necessary adjustments to the AL he should be solid in that lineup. I don't see anyone else with that kind of potential in the 20th round, which is where I've been getting him regularly.

“Who would be the highest paid player, open market, right now, if it was just a– if it was fantasy draft?” asked Patrick.

“That is a great question, and I would have to say it would be someone younger. Not necessarily Albert Pujols. Maybe an Evan Longoria-type,” Rosenthal replied. “And I even had an executive suggest to me last night that a 10-year deal makes sense when you’re talking about a guy at 22- or 23-years-old. Maybe someone like Brett Lawrie of the Blue Jays, who not a lot of people have heard of yet–”

“He’s a great talent,” Patrick interjects.

“He’s an emerging star. This guy will be a star. He’s the closest thing to Pete Rose in today’s game, in terms of his approach. And is talented, as well.”

I was in a mixed 12 team auction league and Brett Lawrie went for $41

Now we live in Toronto so there's always a bit of home town premium but we concluded this was a bit nuts. It was the same price for Longoria and just a few dollars short of some elite hitters like Pujols and Cabrera.

So yeah he's somewhat overhyped. His Minor LEague numbers are actually kind of average EXCEPT for his numbers in LV in the PCL. THE PCL is an Amazing hitter's league with a lot of small staidum/thin air environments - most numbers are inflated.
